Finding Vivian Maier : Why is it so hard for people these days to understand…
Re: Why is it so hard for people these days to understand…
Yes, a little of Maloof goes a long way, but without him, we might never have heard of this lady, or seen her wonderful work. The film might have benefited with more professional narration, and less focus on Maloof and his Quixotic quest.

The title was "Finding Vivian Maier", not "Vivian Maier".
It probably wouldn't have happened without him.

In the documentary, Vivian had corresponded with someone in France about making prints of her work, but it didn't get that far.
Speaking as an artist myself, sometimes all the energy you have is for the creative process - the promotion and reproduction aspects take a lot of time and energy, which not all creative people have or are willing to expend since it requires they do something other than being creative. It's a bother, frankly, but a necessary one and hard to balance when one has precious little resources to begin with.
And then there are those artists who are all about the promotion.I'm looking at you, Damian Hirst.

I do know what you mean, but there is also a middle ground between being famous and simply being a working artist, in which you derive income from your workor at least have the expression of one's creative impulse experienced by others.

I liked Maloof. Attractive, very articulate, & just as obsessed as Vivian. Cannot imagine how much time & money he put into organizing, etc. all of Vivian's stuff, let alone her oeuvre. In his own way, he was almost her doppelgnger.

That's how I saw him, too.
Well, the city's being built and I'm winning this game. So don't interrupt us with trifles.

Thank you!
She took photographs because it was her passion and she loved photography. It was for her own enjoyment. Why is it so hard to believe she enjoyed being a nanny and wanted to stay a nanny.

Perhaps Vivian Maier preferred the act of taking the photograph more than the actual showing of it. I would say that the major flaw and disappointment of this documentary was too much time was spent on the young man who found the negatives. I could never really get into Maier's story because he kept reappearing every five minutes. Did anyone else find him annoying?
