Olivia Olson : So cool…

So cool…

I just looked up our daughters name on google to see if there were any new reviews of Love Actually, and I just found out she has a message board here now. WOW. Who knew.
I cant wait til she gets home from 6th grade so I can show her this board.

Thank you to those who came here and complimented her performance and her voice so far. She LOVED doing that film and is excited to see what comes from it in the future. Too baD Most of her friends couldnt see the film because of its R rating.

Re: So cool…

She is an incredible singer, please give her my compliments, I hope to hear her voice again.

Every story has an end. But in life, every ending is just a new begining.-Ray (Uptown Girls)

Re: So cool…

She was awesome! She can sign so well and act so well! She is definitely going to get more roles! And your daughter is also very, very pretty!! Definitely going to be a star!! :)

Re: So cool…

That is so nice to hear you say. It was her FIRST film ever so she was pretty nervous. Especially on the first day of the shoot. She looks across the room at Hugh Grant and Liam Neeson and Emma Thompson and about a dozen more big stars and before she had time to get too nervous they all greeted her warmly and helped her stay calm.

She wasnt nervous about the singing because that is what she knows how to do. But the acting scenes made her a little scared at first.

She has been out on alot of auditions lately but web68 are not sure yet if she has booked any of them. She has to play a little older than her true age cuz she looks older than she is. So it is a bit hard for her to compete with older actors all the time.

Re: So cool…

Hard work pays off. All the best to her for her aspiring career. Obviously she's made an impression already.

Why don't you fill in some of the biography material for her? It would be nice to know some background. :)

OKAY.
She is only 11 so there is not alot to tell so far. ;-]

She began singing in school and church at a very young age. I have home movies of her doing solos in preschool . The rest of the kids would chicken out and she would say I AM GOING TO SING ANYWAY and she would go onstage alone and do great.

In kindergarten she sang the Star Spangled Banner, a cappella and solo, for a school assembly and she never looked back from that . She has sung in her church choir and in school and local theatre productions since then.

The first 'professional' audition she ever went on was a large public mob scene for Ed Mcmahons Next Big Star, on pax cable. She made it and we were flown to Las Vegas for two shows. Liv was 9 yrs old and that was the first singing she had ever done on television. She loved that experience.

That tv showcase helped her get a wonderful agent who really believes in her.
He sent her out on a lot of great auditions and eventually she got the chance to audition for the 'Love Actually' film.

When I read the script for Love Actually, I really felt that it would be the perfect role for Olivia. She was in a rather grueling 4 month long audition process , and was thrilled to finally win the role.

Thanks for the interest and feedback. It is nice . ;-]

Re: So cool…

I saw the film yesterday as it opens only today in my country (have been waiting for this moment for months). Your daughter is fantastic! It's really unbelievable how she sings! She is a real talent. I wish her success and I hope this film will make her a very good reputation!

Re: So cool…

Wow this little girl is AMAZINGLY talented! The first thing I did when I got home from seeing Love Actually was to look up her name on this site and see if she'd been or was going to be in any other movies. I really hope to see her in other projects soon! Does anyone know if her version of "All I want for Christmas" is on the soundtrack? If it is I want it because I like it better than Mariah Carrey's version!!!

Re: So cool…

The "All I want for Christmas" is definately on the soundtrack. Go out and grab it, it is very very very good. Totally worth your money. I went out to the record store right next door to the theatres and grabbed it after seeing the movie. I listen to it almost daily, and I burned a copy for almost all of my friends to listen to as well. We all loved the movie. Good times.

Re: So cool…

hey i have a question, how did you feel about letting your daughter be in this "R" movie?? With all the sex in it and everything?? just wondering..but your daughter has an amazing voice, and i was also wonder if her version is on the soundtrack? because i will be singing that song, and i want to do it her way and not mariahs! lol, if not, do you know where i can get it? thanks so much!!! God bless

Re: So cool…

She's amazing. I've been meaning to look her up ever since I saw the movie as I was sure I'd seen her before, if not we should have done! Please pass on all this "fan mail" to your daughter - the most incredible talent I've heard in a long time! I wish her every success and happiness.

Re: So cool…

Re: So cool…

I saw Love Actually about a week ago, and it totally warmed my heart. I have been searching for forever to see if i can download All i want for christmas, without any luck. I really love her voice, it is even beter than mariah carey's voice. The only thing i didn't like about the movie were the pornographic scenes, which were unnecessary.

Re: So cool…

Wow, your daughter has one of the most brilliant voices I've ever heard! And she's only in 6th grade? (I'm british, so I'm assuming that 6th grade is about 10 years old). That is just incredible. If Olivia does read this boardyou really really were great. My hair all stood up on end (in a really good way). Release a single! I'll buy it!!!!!!!

Re: So cool…

I was not able to see the movie because i'm only thirteen! :( but i was dying to see the movie because of Hugh Grant, and when i was watching the trailer for the movie i saw Olivia singing in it and i thought she had an absoloutely amazing voice so i went and bought the sound track just for her song and i looked her up online i was thinking she was probably 14 maybe 15 years old than i found out she was only about ten or eleven and i was amazed, be sure to tell your daughter how wonderful i think she is, she will go very far Unfortuneley i can't see her acting until the movie is released on D.V.D (so my mother can fast forward throught the "Inappropriate parts" but so far i know she is teriffic singer i wish her the best of luck with both and i hope to be able to see her in a movie soon. Maybe even have her release an album i'm sure she could get a record deal. Best of luck

Re: So cool…

You must be SO proud! I couldn't believe the voice that came out of such a young girl! It gave me goose bumps (both times that I've seen it). WOW. Please give her my compliments. :)

i'm #1 olivia's fan in spain.. that's for sure!!!
olivia is gonna be the queen of R&B and all that she wants!!!!

Re: congratulations!!!!

She has an absolutely beautiful voice - it's so natural and sweet. It fit the song wonderfully! It's so nice to see real young talent - please tell your daughter that she did an amazing job and we're all looking forward to hearing more from her!

Re: So cool…

Just seen the film tonight and really enjoyed it. However, the one bit that blew my mind was your daughter's voice. I really hope she goes on to realise her true potential as she sounded fantastic - if the song comes out as a single, count me in!

Re: So cool…

Your daughter is VERY talented, and I felt that her voice was a highlight moment in Love Actually. It was awesome, and I wish her the best! Good luck Olivia you definitely have what it takes!

Re: So cool…

I had been watching Love Actually with some earnest, and I looked down for a moment (I don't know what I was doing probably searching for the popcorn) But I suddenly heard this sound I looked up and there was this girl singing on the stage. My eyes widended and my jaw dropped This girl was (at very most) 14 years old! I sat there like a deer caught in headlights, just listening to how well she sang And then at the end I wanted to clap and give the girl (her name is Olivia Olson) a standing ovation! I'm sixteen, and involved in many choir activities and, although far from an expert, am very critical on anyone who sings. Let me tell you from the very second I heard Olivia's voice, I loved her! She's definetely on her way to superstardom, and I just hope that (as other people have already stated) she doesn't get caught up in the "bad ways" of pop culture. I think half the reason I loved her so much was because along with that amazing voice, it wasn't a scandalously dressed, overly-painted face of a twenty year old selling herself to the public- along with that voice, was a very sweet little girl. PLEASE: Don't let her become corrupted; if she stays away from that side of stardom, you already have a permanent fan!
LOADS OF LUCK TO YOU OLIVIA!

Re: So cool…

Thanks so much Jagpaws,

I am so glad you enjoyed Livs singing scene. It was a dream come true to land that part for sure. It was her first film so it was pretty miraculous that it was such a fabulous one.

Actually, Liv was 10 yrs old when she filmed Love Actually. Barely 10 yrs old even. Richard Curtis ALMOST didnt cast her because he was afraid she would look so much older than Thomas and he was worried that people wouldnt believe it was really her singing. I am glad he went ahead and took the chance.

Thanks so much for your kind words of encouragement for Liv. I will make sure she reads them as well.
And we are trying to make sure she is still seen as 11 yrs old as you suggest. THANKS ;-]

Happy Holidays to you

Re: So cool…

Hello,
My name is Julian and I also live in Australia. I am 15, well just turned it in fact, and I have to say that Olivia's voice has to be more pure and more amazing than any other singer. I literally had goosebumps when the song played. It's strange because I just started thinking of becoming a singer a few days before I saw this movie, but now seeing Olivia doing a fantastic job, it has made me decide to do my best to get somewhere.
So thank you Olivia, for helping me continue further with my dream.

I just hope that one day she will have enough time in her busy schedule to meet us down under in Australia. I know I would go to see her!!

I have to say Congratulations to Olivia and her family, merry Christmas (and Channukah from me) and a happy new year.

Re: So cool…

To show how dedicated and how astounded by Olivia, I am dedicating a song to her. Actually two.

If I loved you- from Carousel

and the one really dedicated to her

All I Want for Christmas is You
but my version called: All I Want for Christmas is Olivia

Olivia is very talented

Dear Lulu10,
What a vibrant voice your daughter, Olivia, has.
I enjoyed the movie so much - her singing really touched me while putting me more into the Christmas spirit. She also reminded me of my past singing experiences, which were solos at my church. You are very lucky for having such a confident, and outgoing child - and she is very blessed for having 5b4such a unique, beautiful singing voice.
I hope to hear more of her in the future.

Happy Holidays to you, Olivia, and your family,

Chantal, from Canada

Re: Olivia is very talented

thank you Chantal.
I am glad you have nice memories from singing your solos. Liv really seems to love doing them too.

She does know she has been blessed. Ever since she was in pre-school,she has been singing and has gotten such wonderful praise from others about her warm and expressive voice. She knows it was a gift and she is trying to make the best of it.

Thank you for your kind words, and have a wonderful Christmas up North.

Re: So cool…

I have seen the movie a few weeks ago. When the scene showed up with Olivia Olson singing that beatiful song, i felt tears in my eyes. What i heard whas so beautiful, so fantastic. At that moment i whasn't sure if that the girl in the film whas singing that song.

When i arrived at home, first thing i did whas trying to find out who that girl whas in the movie. That is how i found this page.

I am a real music lover, watch allmost every Idol show around the world. I realy love to hear people with a great talented voice singing beautiful songs. At this moment, i realy believe Olivia Olson, only aged 11 years old, already is a star! She is so much better than for example Britney Spears.

I realy hope to hear and see much more from Olivia Olson. She is realy an angel from heaven. I realy hope she will become a star. (for me she already is a star) But most important is that she will stay a healty, optimistic girl, with love from her family and friends. It should be such a shame when she would become a second Britney Spears.

I wish her the very best for the future, may she become world famous, but most of all a happy woman!

Love from The Netherlands to her and her family!
Menno

Re: So cool…

Thank You so much Marando. We will make sure that she stays true to herself.
It will be important that she does so because her path will be like walking through a minefield I am sure.

We too, are big fans of the IDOL shows. Liv could really identify with what they go through on the shows. Auditioning for this fim was much like that for her as well. She auditioned for 4 months for the film, against many singers who were much older, when she was just 10 yrs old. Annnd it was an elimination process, much like idol was. They kept cutting the group bit by bit until just Liv remained. She was SOOOOOOOOO HAPPY that day !

Many people have been moved to tears by Livs singing. And it has happened often over the years. Until now she only sang in 1354church and in school. This was her first film. We want to take it slowly though because she is only 11 still.

Merry Christmas to you and yours,
LOVE,
the Olson family

Re: So cool…

That must have been exciting for her winning the role! I have always wanted to be in movies since I started musical theatre 9 years ago!

I think Olivia is a great singer. When I saw her on the film, I thought she did a FANTASTIC job, and I think she does a better job than Mariah Carey on the song. And then just yesterday, I saw her on (I think it was) the Wayne Brady show, and I started jumping up and down, because I loved her in the film, and I was so happy she was on TV and singing, since she has a fantastic voice! Then, since earlier that day, I had seen the "Love Actually" CD at Target, I asked my mom if she would would buy it for me as a Christmas present, and ever since I opened it this morning, I have been listening to Olivia's song repeatedly!

I saw the film about a month ago, and even though I am 13, my mom took me to see it, because she wanted me to see it, and she told me to cover my eyes when the "parts" of the movie came on. I loved the movie, and my favorite part was Olivia's because I love the song, and especially the way she sang it!

Merry Christmas Everybody and a Happy New Year,
Liz

Re: So cool…

i was wondering if she was planning on doing anymore films. i mean, she's a great singer and she's gorgeous. yeah, i would love to see her in something else.

Re: So cool…

She would LOVE to. She has been auditioning and hopes to land another role in something soon.

Re: So cool…

Greetings and compliments from Italy - your daughter sings like an angel !

Diamond

Re: So cool…

Diamond,

It is such a blessing that her first film and first recording is sent worldwide. We would have never imagined it.
Thank You so much.

Happy New Year to Italy from Los Angeles

An international story!

Lulu10,

Oh, you'd be surprised how far this film went! I'm from France, my boyfriend was actually the first one to have recommended this film to me. He insisted that I come (the British rock singer is truly hilarious ;p). So I went with my mom and his parents to see it and everybody, at the end, was absolutely astounded by the exceptional voice on the remake of a Mariah Carey song. People could barely believe their eyes, it was this young girl on stage singing It just makes your eyes twinkle.
At first, he actually thought it was someone else singing (which is quite understandable since Olivia has a very lovely mature voice) and got himself the Original Sound Track because he enjoyed it so much! (I've actually got it too, it's really worth it, I confirm!). I will prove him wrong after what I read on this message board! I'll even be able to tell him her real age!
It's true, when you appreciate someone you haven't heard of, people often come to the internet to find out a bit more and that is how I also found out about this site (for the moment, there aren't much sites so it wasn't hard to find a good one but it won't take too long, no worries ;))
I just signed up because I felt like thanking you for taking some of your time to answer your daughter's fan mail, not many have the privilege to actually get this close! And also, to express my fond admiration for your daughter's talent.

I wish your family a wonderful New Year filled with prosperity, happiness, luck and good health!
A special note to you Olivia (if you ever get to read this), I wish you a successful career as you can tell, many fans are looking forward to seeing you very soon!!

Re: An international story!

Angel,

I really do appreciate you taking the time to join and post that sweet message to Liv. Hopefully we wont ever get too cocky to ignore such messages.

As you may have read in an earlier post, Richard Curtis ALMOST didnt give Liv the role because he was afraid noone would believe she WAS actually singing.
He had her sing in front of the crew on the first day of shooting cuz they didnt believe it themselves at first.

Thank you so much for your New Years Wishes. We are looking forward to a nice steady career climb hopefully. She would like to have a long and solid recording career so we are going to take things SLOWLY if possible.

She has been back singing in her choir at church and at school mostly. She HAS been working on her original songs in case her dreams of recording a solo album do come true anyway. She has several finished and many part way written. So it is keeping her busy and happy.

I did send your post to her email so she could appreciate how far and wide her voice traveled. Thank you so much, and lets all pray for some world peace to develop in 2004.

sincerely,
kay olson

Re: An international story!

Hi,I'm Jen. I'm 15 and live in Australia. I saw Love Actually a few weeks ago and loved it for its humour and sense of fun. To say in the least, Olivia had me gobsmacked. Now I have the soundtrack, I'm even more gobsmacked. Olivia is great, and I hope to see heaps more of her i2000n the future, both in the film and music scenes.

This is really random but Mr and Mrs (I presume?) Olson are thanked in the soundtrack booklet (of course). I'm sure you've been very very supportive and have kept her grounded - great idea about taking things slowly!

Anyhow, I hope everyone has enjoyed 2004 so far, and all the best,

jen

Re: An international story!

Hey Lulu, nothing can be said that hasn't already been said about Olivia, but I just want to tell you that your daughter has an AMAZING voice, and she's gorgeous too! I'm 15 and act locally in films and theater and so far the biggest thing I've done has been a film called "Little Erin Merryweather", which screened at the Hollywood Film Festival and the NYC Horror Film Festival (you can look it up on IMDB). But anyway, it is tough getting where you want to in this business and you are so lucky that Olivia had this opprtunity. It's funny how you said the director almost didn't cast her, but good thing he did! I LOVED the way Olivia sang that song, and if I could download it I definitely would! I love how she sounds so natural and normal. Most kid singers sound all opera-y and way too trained for me to like it, but Olivia just does what comes naturally, and she looks like she looked like she was having a blast. And she's a great actor, too!

Good luck to you and her, she really lit up this movie and I think everyone who's seen it remembers her.

Re: An international story!

go to oliviaolson.com and you can download the song, I've been listening to it on repeat for most of the day biggrin.gif

Re: So cool…

Hey :)

I wanted to be among the many to congragulate you and your daughter. I saw this film in November and was amazed at how talented Olivia was. I want to tell you that as someone who's a musician and grew up in a music environment all my life too, I'm some what of a music purist and consider very very few of the people in the music industry really talented with actually good voices, particularly women. I can really count them on one hand. My best friend is the same way, and we are highly critical. Both of us saw Love Actually on different occasions and the first thing we had to comment on to eachother was about your little girl. First of all, despite the fact you can indeed hear it's a girl singing and not a woman, it's not as apparent as any 10 year old you'd put up to the mic. I sang when I was 10, and I know many people who have and even the more successful ones who made all state choirs and whatnot just sounded like kids with a sweet voice. She has a depth in her voice that you don't hear in a young voice. It's very very impressive to hear. I can understand why the director was unsure if people would believe it's her singing. Just the same she sings with so much passion/soul that it blows me away. Kids don't usually ahve such a deep understanding of music and the feeling you have to put into it. I have been playing the saxophone since I was 10, and on the blues songs I STILL can't put in the enough amount of soul that's nessecary. Olivia has SO much potential do NOT let it slip away and do NOT let it go to waist on songs that don't showcase her voice like so many female artists do nowadays only to show their bodies and look good. I wish I knew peopel in the right places so I could see her move along myself, but I don't. Nevertheless I trust enough people who matter saw that movie.

Regarding the director thinking Olivia will look older, I think that is what happened. It was my initial reaction as well. However, I think that the storyline is utterly plausible because as soon as she opens her mouth you understand how easily the little boy could've fallen in love so to speak (not to metion that she's a very pretty girl). If I was a 10 year old boy I wouldve :)

Take care and best wishes to your family.
Hope to see your daughter on the top of the billboard chart in 10 years. Please be careful not exposing her to the disgusting aspects of the business though. I myself get disgusted by it every time I show up for an audition of some sort.

Good luck!
J.

Re: So cool…

By the way regarding the exposure question it's worth mentioning I'm from Israel. You can let Olivia know, she has fans that far away ;)

Re: So cool…

I sent her both posts to let her know that. thanks ;-]

yes, we need to try and protect her from some of the grittier elements. There are alot of concerns we havE ABOUT THIS BUSINESS.

But you right also about the tremendous depth and feeling in her voice and her soul. So we would never want her to stop performing. She LOVES it and she feels it when she sings.

She is a very good songwriter and that is what she has been working on the most lately. Songs from her heart so she can sing from there.

thank you so much for you gorgeous words of encouragement.

sincerely,
the Olson family

Re: So cool…

Really cool! I am listening to the sound track at the moment, and decided to look up the name Olivia Olson here, because I liked the voice and was wondering, if the girl there sang it really - because I saw that 'Billy Mack' was credited for 'Christmas is All Around'. Gosh, what an amazing girl! She was really the singer! My warmest regards from Switzerland. She has a fan here, too!

Fantastic

Can't really say much more- it's all been said. I thought it was dubbed :-P

I am making a horseth asseth of myselfeth!

Could be worse- could be raining!

Re: So cool…

Hello to Kay and the rest of the Olson family!

Although the movie has already been running for more than two months now here in Berlin, Germany, I didn't see it until last week. (By the way, I would love to live in L.A. too ;) The first thing I thought and told my date in the movie when I heard Olivia singing was: "Before getting this role she has won any Star Search or Idol Show for sure!" As I could read here she hasn't so far but if she eventually will participate someday, she'll probably win :o)

Just one thing I can tell you: I hardly ever saw someone on IMDb with just one filmography entry and such an enormous response and I'm already a member of IMDb since about four years now! So it's kind of astonishing that her entry still doesn't contain any information except her character in Love Actually.

I guess what drjmetz virtually meant by "Why don't you fill in some of the biography material for her?" (message #5 on this board) was to add some information to her IMDb record! So I propose you to access her main page, scroll down and click [Update] on the bottom of the page. Afterwards you may fill in as much information as you can or as you want to, especially for the section "Biographical Information". Filling in some "Contact Details" as well could also promote her career in some respects (rehearsals, bookings ), because this information will be visible on http://imdbpro.com too meanwhile a quite prominent major site for people who work in the entertainment industry.

The possibility of submitting a headshot (being displayd on the main page) should not be overlooked but this will require the payment of an additional once-only fee, so choose it well ;)

In case you have further questions related to all this you'll meet quite a few of other contributors on imdb.com/board/bd0000042/threads to assist you.

Last but not least: Hope you receive participation in sales of the movie's soundtrack, as obviously lots of people are buying it just because of your daughter's performance ;) However, she can feel really lucky to have such responsible parents like you.

Best regards,
Oliver (not too different from "Olivia" blush.gif)

P.S. to all the other fans on this board: Please reply to the message you intend to respond to which means not mine, just because it might be the last one in this thread! :]

Re: So cool…

I am an American living in Taipei, Taiwan. I went with a group of expatriates to see Love Actually just last weekend as part of our movie club (it takes a while for western movies to come all the way over here unless they are guaranteed blockbusters like Lord of the Rings and such). All of us were in awe when we heard Olivia sing. I know I had tears in my eyes and it takes very special talents to produce that kind of reaction in me. We all agreed that we wanted to buy the soundtrack. Let Olivia know she has fans all the way out here on Ihla Formosa.
