Poldark : IMDB Forums Closing

IMDB Forums Closing

No more forums here?? I guess we won't be chatting here about season 3.

IMPORTANT: IMDb is the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb's message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

Bummer. I hate Facebook. I guess I'll nurse my passions all on my own then. It's been great for the most part, everyone. I'm sorry it's ending.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

I agree Wendy. I am on Facebook, but am completely inept at it and don't plan on taking lessons! We've all 'met' some great friends on IMDB and had great discussions, so it'll be a sad day when it ends.

BAD DECISION, IMDB, BAD DECISION ALL ROUND!

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

And I certainly won't be coming by this website as often without the message boards. I thought they liked lots of visits. Well, whatever. It's really too bad.

BTW, it's nice to find someone else who is as irritated over Facebook as I am. I have an account, but I hardly ever go there, and whenever I do, I feel like I need to get out of there as soon as possible. I use my real name, and it just feels like people I don't know are watching me or something. I thought it was a fad when it first began and a waste of time, so it's lasted a lot longer than I thought it would, but I still just don't like to go there except to see pictures of my granddaughter.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

One of the (many) things that annoys me about Facebook is that people post every single little inane thing they are doing, as if it's world breaking news! One day they may realise it's not and the rest of the world doesn't care if they're shopping, or doing whatever

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

I sure don't either. I always did think the whole idea was silly. And once I posted information about a TV show I thought was interesting, a documentary, and someone reamed me for putting it up there, someone I thought was a friend. I didn't go back after that, except as I said, to see pictures of my granddaughter when my son posts them.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

Most people do use their real name because it is essentially a place to keep up and talk with old friends or new. For that reason alone I really love it. I have found so many old friends, and can keep up with current friends, and while we can't see each other, we can communicate on there. There is way too much of people telling the world everywhere they go and what they are doing, but, there are a lot of good things about it too. There at lots of Poldark pages too, as well as pages for the actors, but not really forums to go into discussions. However, Facebook can be quite invasive unless you set your privacy on high. When I first joined a few years ago, I felt the way you did Wendy. But it has really been fun at times to find old friends I've wondered about and talk to my nieces and nephews and friend I seldom see and can keep up with their lives a bit and see pictures. I don't post on there the way many people do. I don't understand people that have to post every move they make publicly. However, it has many plusses that I do enjoy. its not for everyone though.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

The Poldark message boards are clean and non-contentious. Some of the other sites on IMDB have people threatening one another and using really abusive language. These boards aren't monitored, and it is because posters can be anonymous here they can get away with gross behavior. I'll miss the boards, but I understand why they're getting shut down.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

I only hang out on boards like this. Period dramas, old films, etc. The sort of series/films that attract the older or more genteel (!) viewer. I wouldn't dream of going to the boards of the blockbusters, or the politics board.

And that's the sadness of it. You can discuss the latest films anywhere. But the more obscure stuff - where then? IMDb had something for everyone, especially for those of us who have no-one in our private lives to exchange views with. And, even if we have, there's only so much to say. The beauty of boards like this is the diversity of opinion, and the way they challenge the mind.

I'm bereft

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

They could manage the boards with volunteer moderators to keep order, but I guess it's too much trouble or something.

I just wish I could figure out how to write to Amazon.com and tell them I bought my coffee maker at Macy's instead of Amazon because of this, but I have no idea how to send them an email. The website hides that information pretty wellif it's there at all.

I'm pretty upset about this, too. I only discovered this site a few years ago, and it's been a lot of fun. I have just eleven favorite shows and actors on my favorites list, and it's always nice to see the occasional post on those boards.

Que bummer, as my Spanish teacher used to say.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

wendycscott9 I just bought my new tea kettle from Wayfair instead of Amazon for the same reason!!!

While I haven't commented on Season 2 of Poldark, I've read some of the threads so maybe we'll all reunite on the site supergran was thoughtful enough to mention - C19:

http://c19.proboards.com/

I joined FB many many years ago to keep in touch with a few out-of-town friends but it wasn't long before we decided phones and emails were much better means of communication. I honestly cannot stand FB.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

Hi merryapril! How nice to find a kindred spirit. LOL I don't know why exactly, but I've been resisting FB for years now. It just doesn't appeal to me.

No one's said how we can email Amazon to let them know of our protest purchases. One of these days, that would be nice to know.

I may check out those other Poldark boards if these actually disappear.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

I use Facebook but it's not conducive at all to having long discussions and you can't easily spot or find new "threads" there. I used to post regularly at Television Without Pity (TWoP) until those forums closed a few years ago. It was much better moderated. While this board has been very pleasant and civil, I've not found that to be the case on the boards for other shows. Some posters can be downright verbally abusive. That sort of behavior, any form of trolling, was never tolerated there. TWoP is apparently making a comeback sometime this year. For those interested you can continue to watch this space:

http://screenertv.com/twop/?_ga=1.86619920.943615779.1485969492

If it's anything like the former TWoP, I'll be there. I love discussing shows and just having a place to come to to get other perspectives when I'm confused about a scene, motivation, etc. or just need clarification about something.

I used to lurk there shortly before it closed. The Little House forum was a scream!

I currently lurk at the previouslytv forums, but there doesn't seem to be much traffic there for some of the older shows I enjoy reading. What a bummer!

Thanks for the new link, gveronica.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

So sad to see this informative service is being closed down. I am a fan of British and European shows and have discovered new ones after posting queries on the boards for Foyle's War and others. I posted a query about rationing in the UK during WW2 and learned about the show "Wartime Kitchen" another great little show I would NEVER have discovered were it not for a query I posted on the IMdB board.

IMdB was one of the FIRST internet sites I ever visited back in 1995. I was on a quest to find old movies a friend's father appeared in. His mother was dying and I wanted to give his family a chance for a video family reunion. I found several titles his dad appeared in and found some VHS (remember thoses?) copies for him. He, his mom, sister and brother all got to see their dad one more time.

I think the juvenile trolls of all ages killed these boards. I've seen some gawd awful flame wars on the boards for various shows in here. Pretty sick, stupid and waste of bandwidth. I guess some of the trolling really got way more out of hand than what I've seen. I have pretty tame tastes in film and TV shows.

What's sad is that I've been writing a bit of fan fiction based on Poldark. How am I going to find an audience for it once it is finished? Guess you'll will have to watch for it at FanFiction.com It's called "Poldark 2017: A Genealogical Mystery"

What a bummer it is indeed!

I'm sure other venues will turn up for discussing television shows and movies. Let's pray they are civilized places and don't turn into a cesspool of vile, trollish behavior.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

Oh, cool, you write fan fiction! I'll have to check out your story. I did read some based on Poldark but found most weren't all that interesting to me. I'd read literally hundreds of stories based on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and most of them were pretty good. I need to go back and check out the Poldark stories again. Maybe they will have improved.

I guess people get a rush out of having online fights, and it doesn't involve any actual bloodshed. But go figure. Who needs that kind of thing in their lives?

I'm hoping the boards will be saved what with all the uproar. And you're so right. I've discovered lots of shows and movies from people's recommendations on these boards. It can't be helpful to business to have them go away.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

No, no and no!!! I am new here, but now love this board and the Outlander!

There is a petition to get IMDB to change their mind. I signed it

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

Thanks, mmarriaga, I signed. Only 874 so far, but that's pretty good for just having gone up.

And now it's up to over 4600!

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

Bummer. Discussions here are pretty illuminating, but maybe they're trying to hint that some people, trolls for instance, need to get out among real people more. ?

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

But would real people have them? That's the question.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

I know I just read it while in another area. I am surprised. I will definitely miss it but it will probably be better for my personal life. LOL.I will miss you guys and some of you nice people. You can't really go into any discussions on Facebook. I'm sure there are other forums out there I have just never really looked for them. Darn..it's like the end of an era. Looks like Feb 20 will be the end of them.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

Godspeed, fellow Poldarkians. I hope everyone enjoys Series 3. And please let there be a Series 4, lest the on-screen story end with the miasmatic VHT.

This Poldark has been an unexpected and terrific addition to the Cornwall canon. And long live Oldark as well tain't right if you've never seen it. And of course the novels await us all, for first readings or rereadings.

In the slow dusk they skirted Nampara Cove and began the last short climb beside the brook towards the house.

Demelza began to sing, mischievously and in a deep voice:

There was an old couple and they was poor, Tweedle, tweedle, go twee.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

What in blazes is IMDB/Amazon talking about?! We here at least in any Poldark Forum, whilst we may disagree on some points, we never treat anyone with UNDESERVED CALUMNY. We're civilised here!!

It's tantamount to George's erection of fencing, around three of the four sides of Ross's Nampara!!

I'd like to see how they're now going to be wasting their bandwidth, their servers, filling up these Pages, with useless garbage!

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

I don't know much about reddit, but there's a place where we can talk about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Poldark/

It's the Aidan Turner Spoilers Page on Facebook. Your welcome to talk about anything related to AT, but the group has ben dominated by Poldark discussions. There's some incredible discussions out there, so it's worth checking out.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

I just got word from a PM friend about the closing. He started a food forum at Google.

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/imdbfoodanddrink

If someone started a Poldark forum, we could all join. I'm too lazy to do it, keep up or monitor whatever.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

There are now two petitions you can sign to try to keep the boards:

https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/petition-to-keep-the-imdb-messageboards-going#

https://www.change.org/p/imdb-stop-imdb-from-disabling-the-message-boards?recruiter=27917358&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink

No idea if they'll work, but we should try, I think. You might want to post these on other boards. The more the merrier.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

One of the members on the Outlander page, started a google group. It seems to be working well and they are transferring favorite threads and everything.

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

Hmmm. Anyone know how to do that here?

I hope so! I would totally join!

Re: IMDB Forums Closing

I'm not surprised. My favorite forum was HBO's original. It was re-formatted in 2009 and lost most of the participants. It's now closed with a F/B referral.

I doubt I'll use Imdb as a source for information. My preference is for Wiki.

I may or may not watch S3. I've found three retired series from the UK I'm currently viewing/enjoying.
