Poldark : Is season 2 less depressing than season 1?

Don't get me wrong, I love the characters, the costumes, the scenery, the era. But dang, the last few episodes of season 1 are such downers! Very sad and depressing series of events.
Considering purchasing season 2. Is it better?

Ross cheats on Demelza with his beloved Elizabeth than acts like he doesn't get why Demelza is upset by it.

It also gets better. I wouldn't skip it myself. And there are some wonderful things about season 2, a fabulous trial, a great love story for Dr. Enys. I don't think it gets worse, exactly, but it is a drama. Good things happen as well and it's all beautifully done. And how can you miss watching Aidan Turner ride a horse, among other things? Plus, there are some uproariously funny scenes, too!
