Throwing a kid out on the streets to the wolves as a solution to dating her drug dealer boyfriend? Then had the nerve to throw her out in tears! Him dying a few days later was great payback!

Not the best solution, granted, but apparently he'd tried everything else would've been better to send her to a boarding school, but likely he couldn't afford that

Sadly he died and his other daughter Carol took to the streets just like Cookie did. He said something while throwing her out that, "I have two other daughters to worry about."

It wasn't just her dating a drug dealer, it was her becoming a mule. She was stashing money and guns in his house. Her continued presence presented a clear threat to everybody living there.

I agree that throwing Cookie out was ridiculous but that's pretty harsh to say he deserved a heart attack.


Since Cookie's mom was never mentioned and made no appearance, I'm assuming Cookie's father was likely a widower/divorced and struggling to care for three daughters as a single father. Sometimes without the input and assistance of the other parent, fathers can make mistakes. It was a terrible mistake to throw out a confused and misguided fifteen year old girl. But he literally didn't know what else to do, was desperate and frightened for his family's safety. I bet that if he hadn't had the heart attack, he would've come to his senses and possibly worked something out with Cookie. His death was really the final blow to Cookie's future.

The OP obviously has never raised kids. I also had to put out a child. No one wants to do it, but they leave you no choice.

He was a senseless and very stupid father to Cookie although I can't comment on your own situation.

He should have died! ANYTHING could have happened to Cookie! Typical black person worshiping their parents! He could have chopped your arms and legs off and you still cry "Daddy! Daddy!" and that wickedness spreads to the next kids and you call it "love"

I honestly don't think his dying was a payback because all the girl's lives were negatively impacted. Cookie ended up with Lucious and lived on the streets. Carol of course ended up with a serious drug problem. Candace was fortunate enough to have married rich but their father's death was an enormous loss to all of them.

I don't know if there was another way he could have tried to reign Cookie in but it seems Lucious's influence on her was too much for her father to overcome. On top of all that, he was probably worried about all the money and other things Cookie was hiding in their house for Lucious. They could all have ended up in trouble. Look what happened to Cookie. She ended up dealing drugs and going away to prison for long time. Perhaps that's why Candace never bothered to visit her in prison????

Cookie got on my nerves too, she had a dad who stayed involved in her life and a stable home with a hard working father. He needed to throw her out he has two daughters that had to be taken care of, cookie made her bed and laid in it. She was becoming a bad influence hiding drugs in their home, he was absolutely in the right.
