Peaky Blinders : I think Grace killed her first husband

I think Grace killed her first husband

Yup.

Re: I think Grace killed her first husband

More likely Tommy did it (paid someone to do it?) IMHO.

Tommy: "It was an accident, Arthur." Right.

Re: I think Grace killed her first husband

Beautiful.

He sure must have off'ed himself quickly after Grace told him she was knocked up.

Her family for all their education sure don't math good. A bit of a whore too wouldn't she have been in their eye's. After delivering the baby she still had not wed Tommy for over a year.

Number ones parents could not have been without suspicion.

She might have told them (if there were any family at all) it was her first husbands baby but at some point she declared it Tommy's. Very fishy.

I wondered why they waited with the wedding so long myself.

Re: I think Grace killed her first husband

Tommy kept saying this last (Russian) job would be their wealthiest. The pretty huge ass home he lived in certainly cost a small fortune.

Did they buy it with Grace's inherited monies from her dead husband? Tommy was basically a guest for two years?

More reasons to despise the Grace character. Ha. Ha.

Re: I think Grace killed her first husband

I don't think Tommy would like to be a guest in Grace's house.

Actually I liked season-one-Grace, just not that pink Bonbon from season two/ three with her talking about never lying to her husband - haha, when she was just cheating on him with her 'old aunt' and the 'Tommy a baby!' I wanted to vomit. But the writer screwed up all the females in season two so...

Re: I think Grace killed her first husband

What is your opinion on having Lizzie behaving sparky and entitled towards Tommy?

To me her being an elevated prostitute should have her giving him unwavering gratitude.

The why she attended the strike, her summoming him to their gripefest was unbelievable.

Adding to this her angry emotions for not being able to bring her con boyfriend to his wedding. Just a big nope.

Knight better not make her Tommy's one, long lasting, lady person. Lol.

I loved May. Hope she returns.

Re: I think Grace killed her first husband

Lizzie fell for Tommy like everyone else. I'd have to watch season three again to be sure about her there though.

Loved May too. Hopefully she comes back.

From S03E05

Alfie asks but not really on how Thomas came to his new real-estate.

"A foreclosure of a gambling debt from some poor young lord who you pumped full of opium in one of your casinos?"

Alrighty. However that staff and the cost of upkeep had to have been immense.

Re: I think Grace killed her first husband

The acquisition of the big house was discussed in S3. Nothing to do with Grace or her dead husband.

They smelt of pubs and Wormwood Scrubs. And too many right wing meetings.

Re: I think Grace killed her first husband

Was that the comment made in passing by Alfie to Tommy? The strong arming it off someone over a gamble?

Cause that is weak and in Tommy's experience a dangerous heist.

However he acquired it he sure moved in, setting up house quickly. Or maybe it came furnished :)

Exactly that, it was discussed during an interview with Knight. The thing with Peaky Blinders is, with the exception of the twist in the final episode, the story is exactly just as it's played out on screen. All of the hidden meaning that fans find in looks and dialogue turn out to be nothing.

Not so weak, it's actually very realistic and evidence of accurate research on Knight's part. It's well documented that many members of the British aristocracy lost properties and whole estates as a result of gambling debts. In the early 20th century many of the estates were heavily in debt, add to that the gambling epidemic among the ruling classes and you have a recipe for disaster.

Re: I think Grace killed her first husband

I am quite excited to go read Knight's interviews. It'll be a way to pass the time until season 4.

Usually I am not curious about pondering the why's of fictional characters. This series though is compelling.

The debt must have been massive for Tommy to glean a mansion. Still a bit staggering IMO. Yet I imagine some who can, gamble big.

Since the races are all fixed Tommy really didn't have anything to lose eh? :)

Re: I think Grace killed her first husband

The debt wouldn't necessarily have been equal to or anywhere near the value of the property. They were different times, they wouldn't be seizing goods to the value of the debt. Some drugged up desperate Lord would have used his estate as collateral in one of Tommy's casinos.

Many well known British estates were lost to gambling throughout the centuries.
