The Lazarus Effect : So what exactly was the "Lazarus Effect"?

It's the title of the movie, but it isn't clear what is happening to the newly deceased who are injected with the serum. Is it supernatural? Religious? Or strictly some biochemical mishap? A combination of all three? This movie had an interesting idea, but didn't explore deeply or provide any insight or answers.

(Supposedly) Lazurus was brought back from the dead (by Jesus).

That's essentially what the research team was doing raising the dead.

Ol' black eyes was not part of the project.

Brains are good, especially when sauteed with carmelized onions.

The film is exploring the question of whether you are bringing people back from a death state of nonexistence or whether they were interfering with people ( and I guess animals) from opening the door and passing on to whatever realm awaited them e.g heaven or hell.

The Zoe character explained the idea that hell is reliving the worst moment of your life in an endless loop, possibly for eternity.

It was named Lazarus, I'm assuming, because that's what Dr. Robert Cornish named the two dogs he brought back to life in the 1930's. His experiments are what the movie is based on. He probably named his dogs Lazarus in reference to the bible. But that's just conjecture.

When something involves Thor it's better to assume they are referencing the god and not the Avengers character. Otherwise you are referencing a reference and that is just silly.

Lazarus was supposedly returned to life by Jesus (he probably had just passed out after choking on some loaf and fish), so anything called Lazarus will be in reference to him, not Dr Cornishes dog.
