Amy : Her voice

Her voice

She could really sing.

Re: Her voice

I miss her voice. I know addiction is something you can get a handle on but wow what a loss. I am seeing tons of negative stuff already. Won't be back on this board I guess.

Re: Her voice

Agreed. The world is an uglier place w/out her music

Re: Her voice

Seriously, one of the most talented singers of our time. Tragic ending to an amazing voice. RIP Amy.

Stupid troll Stupid

Obviously you're not a golfer!

Re: Her voice

Could she ever, what a voice, the power and control she had, that beautiful contralto voice that could still go high with lilts and trilling I have only ever heard true opera singers (and the great Kate Bush!). She would hold notes long, clear, and strong, then at the very end, do a trill, that is so hard to do and she did it effortlessly, it was the way she sang everything. She was amazing for her voice, music, songwriting that seemed to speak to everyone personally, and ability to switch up genres, mastering and loving jazz. I love that Tony Benett said she should be treated like one of the greats, like Billie Holiday and Ellla Fitzgerald, her musical heroes including him, Tony Bennett, and Sarah Vaughan, all musical greats I love listening to. Her musical timing was perfect, she had such a huge talent and personality that is so hard to find. I was so sad to see her go. I wish things had been different for her, her music lives on. I know I will always be listening. I heard this documentary is good, I will be watching it soon too.

When you get up in the morning, how do you decide what shade of black to wear? (Shallow Grave)

Re: Her voice

I agree with everything you've written, Em0411. Amy was a huge loss. I keep wondering what she would've gone on to do, what we have missed because of her dying far too soon.

The documentary is very good. Obviously there's sadness and tragedy, but the film also celebrates her humour, intelligence and charm as well as her unique voice and songwriting talent.

Re: Her voice

She truly had one of the most beautiful voices ever recorded.

Re: Her voice

I think Noel Gallagher pointed out that Amy changed music for female singers; would Adele, Lana del rey, and other soulful female singers have come about without her? I was suprised that Amy didn't like dido tho ha. I liked dido.

Well if she didn't, and her reaction might not have been a dislike of Dido, then I don't blame her! I loathe Dido's music and voice but love Amy's. Anyway Amy is turned off by the interviewer's repetition of Dido in such a sort space of time that shows the interviewer was ignorant of the music tradition that Amy became part of.

A bird sings and the mountain's silence deepens.

Re: Her voice

Not sure where youre from Jeff but Dido is a bit of a joke in the UK, considered the ultimate in early 00s bland mor soulless elevator music. So not surprised she curled her lip at that particular comparison.

Re: Her voice

We saw this yesterday afternoon at a local "art house" cinema; walked-out a little over two hours laterdevastated. What a loss! Sitting there, in the dark, watching this young woman self-destruct was one of the saddest experiences in recent movie going memory.
And yesHER VOICE was amazing! At one point, I leaned over to my spouse and said, "Wow, truly one of, if not the, best voices ever heard."
Amy Winehouse will never be forgotten.

Re: Her voice

That she could but, for me, it was more about the feeling and sincerity that really came from the head and heart as much as the vocal cords, if ya know what i mean. She was a musical and lyrical genius. I knew she was good with them already but the film really highlighted her talents well there. She was a walking poem with an amazing grasp on how music works.
At least that's what i reckon

Re: Her voice

Yep it was a nice one

Re: Her voice

nah she's overrated.

Re: Her voice

I wasn't a fan of hers, but she did write some beautiful songs and had talent. Shame she died so young. I was never into tragic, helpless characters, and she felt to be a bit that way, at the mercy of people who basically seemed to use her: her father, her boyfriend

Personally I thought Nina Simone's life and documentary (also nominated for an Oscar) were far more interesting, because she did a lot more, she lived longer, and I suppose she was lucky there weren't so many drugs so easily available back then!

Good documentary though, worth watching for anyone interested in music history. She reminded me a little bit of Kurt Cobain, in her fragility and her musicality.

Re: Her voice

Amy was an overrated, talentless singer whose pathetic addictions killed her. The End.

Re: Her voice

>overrated, talentless singer

Ah, clearly you have no ear for music whatsoever.

Re: Her voice

I compare her voice to that of Billy Holiday, whom she reminded me of. The songs they sang and lives they lived were very similar. Amy was one in a million and her talent was unquestionable. What a loss.

Re: Her voice

When she hit a song right, she hit it right. I sometimes think that she should have rested her voice though.
