Nigella Lawson : How did she marry this guy in the first place?

In this modern age, when marriages are no longer financial transactions or political alliances, there are three reasons, at least that I can think of, to marry someone:

1. He's capable of providing for you and your children

2. His personality is such that you could contemplate spending the rest of your life with him

3. He looks good.

Well, Saatchi's rich, no doubt about that. But then so is Nigella. Not only is she independently wealthy, she comes from generations of stock money. As far as personality goes, Saatchi's autobiography was called "Be the Worst You Can Be: Life's Too Long for Patience and Virtue", and was essentially a guided tour of the mind of a psychopath. And he looks like this:

This is a woman who could have literally ANYONE she wanted. How did she end up with this guy?

I can only guess he had some kind of charm. Loads of psychopaths do.

Quite a few successful but ruthless men seem to do OK with the ladies.

Let me start by saying that in "this modern age" many many marriages are still financial transactions, if not political alliances. It's not as though the world today is all that evolved, even though we like to think it is, and all do to us.

But the reasons Nigella would settle with that crusty dude Saachi, would be because in essential ways, they were compatible. And also because most women don't place physical attractiveness on the same podium as most men do, obviously by looking at some of the rich trolls good looking woman tend to marry. And some women actually like2000 the older man thing, and Nigella is in her fifties.

So, persistenceofvision, you automatically assume she holds the same political beliefs as her father and husband?

money + power = sex

I think you'd have to ask Trinny Woodall who stepped into the place left vacant by Nigella a few weeks later. I can imagine the main attraction is power and money, and his ability to make her 'career' happen.

Something at the trial comes to mind too. I'm not very familiar with her "back story" but she seemed to imply that her father was strict and quite angry, and that Charles S. reminded her of her father.

If I was married to him I'd be doing Heroinnot blow. He's a nutbag.

Getting his PAs to bulk-buy copies of his own books so they'd be in the best-seller lists is hilarious. I wonder how many other famous people do things like that
