Politics : Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
No.
Can we just stop all the obstruction and try to work together to get something done?
or
Let's keep going tit for tat, and watch our entire system burn down
or
What do I know?
"the absence of evidence is the actual evidence." Tcob44

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
America's over, yo. It caught a terminal disease when the GOP made a blanket policy of obstructing the President on everything. Hold hands and sing songs, the ship is going down.
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Yeah, it didn't start there. Go back to 1994, when the Reps shutdown the government.
Or
Back in 06, when the Dems locked the reps out being able to write and pass ACA
This idea that obstruction started only in the last few years is way ignorant of history

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Yeah, the Republicans shut the government down. over the fiscally responsible budget that Democrats today credit Bill Clinton with.
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Since the boards are empty now I'll jump in. Yes. Even though a few are bad we should an example and do so. I have Obama chance and I will the next guy after Trump
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
You morons are incredible, yo
I haven't forgotten the way you duplicitous fcks behaved in the 1992 election when you mocked WWII hero Bush Sr as a "wimp" and taunted him for not deposing Saddam during the first Gulf War.

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Who did that?
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
That was actually in 1988 during the GOP primaries, and rumored to have been started by Pat Robertson in defense of lying about his own military service.

The most admired Democrat (among Democrats) said:
In 2013, Chuck Scumer said:
Just about everyone in America, Democrat, Republican, liberal, conservative, believe that once you elect a president he deserves his choices to run the executive branch.

Therefore, the Democrats, not the Republicans have started this war. Now, the Republicans did block Merrick Garland, but that was at the end of Obama's administration, and that was ONE man. They approved Obama's other two Supreme Court appointees, as well as Obama's cabinet picks. The Democrats are not only stonewalling Trump's choice for the SJC, they have stonewalled every nominee for Trump's cabinet, the only time this has ever been done in US politics.
I would not blame the Republicans if they did to the Democrats exactly what's being done to them by the Democrats now. I would not blame them if they retaliated 10 fold! After all, that's what the Democrats are doing now.
Let the Democrats turn the other cheek for a change.

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
If this keeps going the Republican should certainly do that. At the same time you have to accept that Republicans followed the same strategy for much of Obama's term.
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Republicans did not stonewall all of Obamas cabinet picks, nor did they block his very liberal SCOTUS picks. Even Biden himself said that SCOTUS judges should not be nominated in election years.
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
What so you think of Trump's SCOTUS pick? The media actually seems quite supportive.
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Cons have short term memories. They don't remember 2009 when the party of "NO" obstructed Obama every way they possibly could.
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
You mean like when they gave him everything he wanted in the budget, even though they had full control of Congress? Or when they allowed him to completely disregard our immigration laws, even though they had full control of Congress? Or when they completely backed down to him with regard to funding Planned Parenthood, even though they had full control of Congress?
Yeah, it was unreal how obstructionist they were.

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
You didn't give the last one, Obama, a chance. I wouldn't expect you to start now.
Democrats did give Trump a chance. And he has blown it, by acting like a childish, dictatorial buffoon every single day since the election.

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Enlighten us Pocahontas. When did the dems give Trump a chance? Even one example will be encouraging.

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
You say "Pocahontas" like the name is an insult. It isn't.
I gave Trump a chance until he went on Twitter, insulting an unknown American citizen who had the courage to call out Trump's falsehoods, and sicking his brownshirts on the man:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/12/07/donald-trump-retaliated-against-a-union-leader-on-twitter-then-his-phone-started-to-ring/?utm_term=.165f87d75502
He has done nothing to deserve another chance since then. His behavior has only gotten worse. Unfit to be president.

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Obama had a 70 percent approval rating when he entered office the first time. Nice try, low-information.
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Obama didn't act like an insane man-baby dictatorial brat, did he, "Alternative Facts"?
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Yes, Republicans are definitely above this sort of petty partisanship, they made that abundantly clear over the previous 8 years

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
They never gave the last democratic president a chance why would they change if they had another?

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Both parties have become so hyper-partisan that even the idea of 'compromise' is akin to treason. Unless that changes sometime soon we are essentially fcked as nothing will ever get fixed and whenever the teams change places they will work to undo whatever the other party just implemented. Constant political chaos.

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Perhaps you guys can remind me when it was that Republicans tried to block all of Obamas cabinet appointees and SCOTUS picks?
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Obama's picks weren't insane/stupid/both. Trump's are.

Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Yes, they should. Democrats, unlike Republicans, care about this country.
But the Republicans won't because they're whiny, petulant, stupid little children.

Have you ever heard the expression "What goes around comes around"?
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Absolutely. Food, water, a good coat, a compass and some boots. A full day's head start and a hat. And some matches. We're not barbarians.

Hear, hear! A gentleman's honourable proposal! Free Joey!
Re: Should Republicans give the next Democrat president a chance?
Yes
I also think that Democrats should give New Republican Presidents a chance as well (unless it is Donald Trump again, His BS was as clear as day back in 2016).
