Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens : If Starbase Killer destoys the sun..

If Starbase Killer destoys the sun..

Why would it even need to destroy the planets around said sun? I know star wars is science fiction / fantasy but still this seems more stupid than most of Star Wars technology. If your sun was to be consumed the planets would not only freeze to death very quickly they would also become rogue planets without a star to orbit.

It also destroys IMDB Message Boards.

Touche my friendlets hope these douche bags see the error of their ways once they start loosing more and more of their precious ad revenue. What other reason is there to visit this site when you can get all the basic info on any media from google?

Re: If Starbase Killer destoys the sun..

Yeah ive been saying the same thing as well.
To be fair though, i think the Starkiller did not consume the direct star of the planets that it destroyed.

But yeah, taking away the star will destroy its solar system.
If the Sun was to be removed, not just the planets, but all the rubble and asteroids that were locked into this gravitational bubble, will start flying around in chaos.
Destroying a planet then would be more like putting it out of its misery.

Also, just thought of this now, but since the Starkiller is already pretty huge, consuming a star will make it a lot heavier.
As Einstein said; Better to have one bird in your hand, than to have an ugly face.
No, but the Starkiller would get extremely heavy for its size, it would sling everything around on its path, which could actually be a nice defense.

I skip reading the bottom line, because it is usually some lame signature.

Re: If Starbase Killer destoys the sun..

Yeah I didnt even want to think too much about how a planet sized object could hold all the mass and energy of a sun, I just assume they are using some kind of advanced technology that converts the mass into energy and somehow stores it within the core of the planet. Does that make sense? no, but at least there could possibly be some kind of far fetched scientific explanation for that aspect.

Should we even attempt to answer how anyone could witness starbase killer destorying planets in another star system? No we shouldnt think about such things as it will only further destroy our ability to suspend our disbelief.

I still enjoy The Force Awakens a lot more the prequels but there is just way too much nonsense like this that takes you out of the moment if you have even a fundamental knowledge of physicsI'm really hoping they cut back a bit on the inexplicable nonsense going forward.

Re: If Starbase Killer destoys the sun..

Starkiller base was one of the absolute dumbest ideas I have ever seen. They were so desperate for a new take on the Death Star that they didn't take time to actually think it all out very well. Firstly, why would the base which is constructed on a planet that in turn is given life by a star, then use it's own star to fuel their weapon? The planet would now be rogue and no ecosystem could exist on it's surface. The base was obviously designed to have a working ecosystem, what with all the outdoor gatherings and exits, etc.

The planet-based weapon should have remained planet based, and due to the planet's rotation and orbit, come into view of various targets. The sun could be an energy source, but not to the point of destroying or weakening it.

Or, the weapon should have been based on a gigantic asteroid with no atmosphere to begin with, thus allowing the asteroid to not depend on the sun asnd be free to move around the galaxy ala the Death Star.

Or, they should have just copied Star Trek Generations and had a weapon that fires projectiles of some sort into a sun, destroying it and causing a shockwave that obliterates all planetary bodies in the solar system.

ANYTHING would have been preferable to the silliness we actually got with Starkiller base.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.
