Re: BREAKING NEWS: He's dead!

RIP Brian. You were a true comic genius. I'll miss that nervous and stammering character acting you played so well.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: He's dead!

I must admit i thought he died years ago.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: He's dead!

I've just found out - it's a very sad day indeed for fans and stars of British comedy. Brian Wilde was one of the best comedy actors ever - and one of the very few to create two favourite characters in two of the best sitcoms of all-time - the gullible Mr Barraclough in "Porridge" and the interfering but loveable Foggy Dewhurst in "Summer Wine". RIP Brian.

WS: He's dead!

Very sad news, I loved him in Porridge and Last of the Summer Wine. A lovable character who always reminded me of my dad. R.I.P. Brian.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: He's dead!

Alas, he shall be sorely missed. Him and Paul Scofield in one day, phew, what a blow!

RIP Brian Wilde. You were a great inspiration to us all.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: He's dead!

Bye bye Foggy, RIP Brian Wilde.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: He's dead!

This has not been a good Maundy Thursday, with the deaths of two fine actors.

Brian Wilde may have been working in a very different field from that of Paul Scofield, but I enjoyed the work of both of them, and they will both be sadly missed.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: He's dead!

We'll miss you Foggy.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: He's dead!

As Foggy Dewhurst he was head and shoulders above (excuse the pun) the other "tall" characters of the resident wandering trio, who seemed to change with monotonous regularity. I would have been happy had he managed to stay the entire 40-year run. Forget "Porridge".

Re: BREAKING NEWS: He's dead!

I loved him as Mr Barraclough in Porridge. He was wonderful. RIP Foggy.

RIP

I was saddened to hear of the passing of this fine British actor. He will be sadly missed.

RIP Foggy / Mr Barraclough

''All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

. Time to die''.

Re: RIP

Apart from the obvious characters of Foggy and Mr. Barraclough, I will always remember Brian in the sadisticly straight role as Topcliff, the Elizabethan Royal Torturer, in 1971's Elizabeth R.

A Truly sinister performance and one worthy of such a great actor. Comedy or Drama made no difference to a talent like this.

Re: RIP

Very sad to hear of this. He will be greatly missed, Rest in Peace.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: He's dead!

He was also good at playing sinister villains, such as 'Mr.Peacock' in the 'Ace Of Wands' series ( it came out on D.V.D. last year ). Such a subtle, understated performance. R.I.P. Brian Wilde.
