Anne Shirley : Call me crazy…

Call me crazy…

Call me crazy, but doesn't anybody think she looks very much like Olivia DeHavilland?! They even sound the same

Re: Call me crazy…

They were very much the same type. Anne was considered for Melanie in Gone with the Wind and Olivia declined the role in Saturday's Children which Anne took. And later they appeared in Government Girl together.

Re: Call me crazy…

NO, you are not crazy at all. I think they did resemble each other a lot.

..What do you all think about Jean Kent's screen testing for 'Melanie'?

Im sorry but im not convinced its this 'Jean' of which she speaks! haha
..i keep thinking its secretly Paulette Goddard (modern times era when she was a tad younger).absoloutely convinced i tell thee!, their voices are the same,mannerisms..everything. could be wrong! ?

Re: Call me crazy…

A little. She also looks slightly like SHirley Jones to me.

Re: Call me crazy…

Anne looks more like Olivia than her own sister Joan! I disagree wholeheartedly with the poster above who says "a little." I swear I kept forgetting it was Anne Shirley and not Olivia while watching Devil & Daniel Webster. I like Anne, but she can't hold a candle to Olivia's beauty and talent.

Re: Call me crazy…

Wellmaybe a little, but dang it if I don't LOVE Olivia!

Re: Call me crazy…

Anne looked just like Olivia in Devil & Daniel Webster..the spittin' image of Melanie Hamilton in that one!

Re: Call me crazy…

I think she did look a bit like Olivia and SHirley Jones.

I also think Anne didn't have the drive the others 5b4did for acting and if she had,she would have gotten to do a lot more but she didn't have that drive. She had acted since she was a little girl and she just didn't care to continue ,just mainly did it for her mother is what I've read.

Re: Call me crazy…

As previously mentioned, Anne Shirley bares more of a striking resemblance to that of Olivia De Havilland than Olivia's very own sister, Joan Fontaine. Anne looks like their long lost sister, however, the distinguishable facial characteristic in Anne (when comparing her to Olivia) is the unique structure of her nose, which is incomparable to anyone. With that being said, however, both women are breathtakingly gorgeous and I have serious crushes on both, including Joan.

Re: Call me crazy…

Just watched "The Devil and Daniel Webster" and the first thing that came to my mind as Anne Shirley appeared was: "I didn't know Olivia de Havilland was in this picture!" :D

Re: Call me crazy…

I said the same thing, brutha!!! I SWORE that was Olivia de Havilland. How anybody cannot see thatwell, I just can't fathom it.

Re: Call me crazy…

I thought the same thing. Had to come here to check. I was sure it was Olivia de Havilland!

Re: Call me crazy…

That's who I thought she was!

Re: Call me crazy…

It's funny, but I just this moment discovered her for the first time. They're running "Anne of Green Gables" on TCM, and I couldn't believe what a revelation she was! And there was a scene in which Gilbert tells her he wants her to "be his girl", and she gave her a totally Olivia DeHavilland smile! And then I started hearing the similarities in the voice, as well. What a shame they never played sisters together! She looks more like Olivia than her own sister. She definitely shouldn't have 'retired' she deprecated her own talent, but it seems luminous and extraordinary to me.

Re: Call me crazy…

Although I don't usually go for the "Someone looks just like someone else" posts, on this one I will bite, and agree!
Olivia and Anne do look alike; and another actress of the era, Andrea Leeds looked similar to both.
I always thought they could be triplets.

Re: Call me crazy…

I thought the same exact thing while watching "Stella Dallas", that the actress playing the daughter looked a lot like a young Olivia Dehavilland! I had to look on IMDB to see who the actress was!

Re: Call me crazy…

Same. She does look a lot like young Olivia.

Re: Call me crazy…

Yes, she does resemble Olivia.
