Cinderella : Isn't Cinderella suppose to be rich?

Isn't Cinderella suppose to be rich?

That's the only question i have for this she seems to be the owner of a huge mansion way before the stepmother from France ever came along so why did the Stepmother claim she's in debt and a mansion that huge could be worth Millions.. after the dad died, Ella could've easily inherited the mansion and kick them out..

Re: Isn't Cinderella suppose to be rich?

Without the income Ella's Dad used to bring, it's hard to maintain the mansion. Did he leave a will? If he didn't, what does the law say in cases of intestacy? I believe Tremaine inherited the mansion.

Re: Isn't Cinderella suppose to be rich?

Assuming there was no will, everything went to Lady Tremaine, and Ella was at her stepmother's mercy. Ella basically either had to leave (with nowhere to go) or stay as a servant and maybe wait for either her stepsisters to be married off or for Lady Tremaine to die.

Re: Isn't Cinderella suppose to be rich?

Damn, that sucks. I felt in this version of the film, Cinderella was actually OK with the two sisters (they are annoying but not evil) it's Lady Tremaine whos the mastermind of her misery if Tremaine is the true owner, it would be true hell for Ella living in that place..

Re: Isn't Cinderella suppose to be rich?

Yeah, you're right. Ella didn't hate her stepsisters. I read somewhere that Ella was even amused by them. They were just annoying. It was Lady Tremaine that made Ella's life a living hell.
