Lucy Scott : I Love Lucy

I Love Lucy

So here I am from Susannah's page. (she played the "good looking one" in P&P)

I suppose when you say this one or that one looks prettiest in a particular movie, it has a lot to do with your particular idea of what's attractive in the first place.

Our impression when watching movies, it should be remembered, might also be influenced in a big way by who the director particularly wants to look pretty or not.

Makeup artists are just that, artists, and the face is their canvas.

In a movie like Pride & Prejudice, where there are many, many good looking actors, there is certainly a concerted effort on the directors part to get you to think of some of them as "plain" so as to have juxtaposition to the "beautiful" ones.

I think Lucy has to have better acting skills being a beautiful person while acting as a "plain jane" type than a beautiful person playing a beautiful person does, the makeup notwithstanding.

I don't remember seeing Lucy in anything else, so maybe not being a standout in a lot of shows is why she doesn't have a large message board, not because her acting was bad or she doesn't look good enough to attract any attention.

There are many instances where the best acting got overlooked simply because it didn't even look like acting.

KUDOS to you Lucy, and to all those other good actors we moviegoers don't even seem to remember after the movie's over.

Re: I Love Lucy

I'm really surprised at the lack of discussion on this board. I thought Lucy Scott's work in Pride and Prejudice was excellent. Then just last night I happened to be watching an episode of the Inspector Lynley series--"For the Sake of Elena"--and instantly recognized Ms Scott in her role as a hearing woman interpreting for the detectives as they question a deaf student at Cambridge. With her ability to sign, I would expect her to get more roles where that skill is called for.

I'm going to be paying more attention to this actress in the future, and will try to see the other works in her filmography.

Interesting points, rockcairn69, on her physical appearance. I always feel uncomfortable talking about someone's looks, but I suppose actors have to expect that. I think Lucy Scott is lovely to look at, but more important, she has a face that is distinctive without even remotely being "odd." She's easy to remember, very attractive, and yet looks like a "real person" whom you might meet anywhere, any day.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time, and annoys the pig.

Re: I Love Lucy

Lucy Scott is beautiful and her Charlotte Lucas was physically one of the prettiest. She did a great job playing dull and serious. I have always thought she was one of the prettiest in that production of P&P. I hadn't read the book, so I couldn't understand why she was treated as so plain when she is clearly beautiful.

Re: I Love Lucy

She was one of my favorite characters and actors from Pride & Prejudice as well. I especially loved her voice. I'm just now getting around finding audio books that she has narrated, and thankfully there are plenty, including Jane Eyre, one of my favorite novels ever!
