Laura Schlessinger : Martial arts correction

Martial arts correction

Under "Trivia" on this page it says of Dr. Laura:

"Has a black belt in Aikido form of karate."

I have it on the good authority of my wife, who has studied the discipline, that Aikido is not a form of Karate. It's its own animal.

That's all! =)

Re: Martial arts correction

I heard or read somewhere that her black belt is in Hapkido, which is a Korean martial art.

Re: Martial arts correction

Either way, I wouldn't care to take her on. And that does seem like an easy couple of words to mix up.

Re: Martial arts correction

Am I the only one on this board who actually LISTENS to her program? Or does everyone just like to sit and speculate about her? She has stated on her program numerous times that her black belt is in Tae Kwon Do, endorsed by the nation of South Korea.

Re: Martial arts correction

I've never heard her show because I don't know when it's on around my area (Chicago and vicinity); perhaps you know. If so, please fill me in.

And may I suggest decaf.

I do not drink coffee. I do not ingest caffeine in any form, actually. I haven't even had a soda in like 10 years. I hope one of these stations works for you, if not there are several stations that broadcast free online. A good one is KFI 640. http://www.kfi640.com/pages/streaming.html Dr. Laura is on live from 2pm-5pm central time.

Hope that helps.

Re: Martial arts correction

From what I understand about martial arts, all the forms that end in "do" are from the Koreas. Karate is distinctly Japanese in origin and you can have black belts in any one of them.

Re: Martial arts correction

Plus, don't some instructors blend in some concepts or teachings from one or more martial arts to another? That was my impression
