Re: Hannibal and Will As Children

I imagine that, in contrast to other people, they were quite similar to how they exist in the present. Although it wouldn't surprise me to learn that Hannibal Lecter was less concerned with his physical appearance up to high school age. As a result I imagine that in many ways they would be similar to each other, and that much like the present (unless otherwise stated - I can't remember) unlike Will, Hannibal probably didn't cry very much. I'm sure, besides reading, that Will had strange and lonely hobbies for a kid his age, that he didn't like bullies very much. And that Hannibal Lecter liked to torture and kill small animals. Both would be loners, and good quiet students, but Will (at least seems like) the public school type, and Hannibal would appear to have a more "formal" education.

I imagine they'd get along quite well, too. Although I think the odds of Hannibal successfully convincing Will to become a murder would be much higher in adolescence. That seems like a Columbine friendship.

Re: Hannibal and Will As Children

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I didn't write mine down because I was curious what everyone else would say! I imagine that Will was probably bullied in school and didn't socialize much with other children. Hannibal probably was to an extent as well, I imagine, but I suspect that he found ways to deter their attention. I think that the peasant who killed Mischa was probably a catalyst for his obsession with etiquette.

Re: Hannibal and Will As Children

Does anyone else wonder what Will and Hannibal were like as children in this continuity?

No. I dont particularly like kids in my adult tv shows. They're pesky.

Will was probably obsessed with fishing, and Hannibal with cooking. Will would have built things with lego; Hannibal would have destroyed them. Will's hobby of stealing dogs off the side of the road started around the time he was about 5. Hannibal's hobby of butchering protein started about the same age.

That's the best I've got.

Re: Hannibal and Will As Children

Correction: Hannibal would build legos just to find different ways to destroy them LOL.

Re: Hannibal and Will As Children

So you haven't watched Hannibal Rising (2007)? It shows who Hannibal was as a kid, a teenager and a young adult. However, it doesn't even recall Will, specially because Will as the FBI weird guy is an invention of the series. Anyway, the movie is amazing. At least I love it, even though I've heard many Hannibal fans hate it.

Re: Hannibal and Will As Children

That's a book/movie title only the bravest of the brave mention here. Buckle up, carmen. It's gonna get bumpy. I havent read it or seen it. I've just seen the fallout on the board.

Re: Hannibal and Will As Children

Have you read all the books?

Re: Hannibal and Will As Children

I haven't read any books yet. Why?

Re: Hannibal and Will As Children

Hannibal Rising, while I think it's fine and entertaining on its own, is not a good Hannibal Lecter story (in my opinion, at least). I have read it though. That Hannibal was made into a monster through the trauma of Mischa's death, but in the show, Mischa's death only fueled the monster he already was. Bryan Fuller's backstory for Hannibal is much more in line with what Thomas Harris was originally writing before Dino De Laurentiis got him to write Hannibal Rising.
