Insidious: Chapter 2 : Who was possessing Josh?

Who was possessing Josh?

Exactly who was possessing Josh?

At the end of Insidious, we saw an old woman stalking Little Josh and eventually possessed his body to kill Elise.

In the beginning of Insidious: Chapter 2, we still thought it was an old women. But then the ghost investagators found out that it was an old man dressed up as an old woman. So Josh is actually possessed by an old cross-dressing ghost.

But then again the cross-dresser is controlled by his crazy psycho mom who uses him to kill many women.

Finally Elise and Josh enters the Black Bride's house and Elise attacks the old woman with a chair. At the same moment possessed Josh felt pain in his back and stopped attackig Dalton.

BUT this doesn't make any SENSE: if it was the old man possessing Josh, then why would it hurt him when they attacked the ghost mother.

It would help a lot if someone can explain what was going on...

Re: Who was possessing Josh?

That's a fair point. The way I understood it was: Josh was possessed by Parker(hence Carl referring to him as Parker) but still being haunted by the Black Bride. So maybe mother and son were linked? So when the bride died so did Parker

Re: Who was possessing Josh?

It wasn't the mum possessing Josh but I suppose the black bride depended on the spirit world to survive, because he had crossed over? And Elaine said something like by destroying his memories they were destroying his home, or homes in the spirit world were actually big memory things so his mum was a memory in his spirit home???.... Um that's probably not it, I'm gonna post anyway

Re: Who was possessing Josh?

Parker was the Black Bride possessing. His mother may but even have been a ghost it was just the memory of how she'd messed him up which gave him his motivation. On second thouhght she was clearly a ghost but by beating her Parker could move on.

Re: Who was possessing Josh?

The Black Bride IS Parker Crane. When he was alive, he killed others just to make his mom happy, or at least gain some sort of acceptance from her. Once he was inside Josh, Parker was still being influenced by his mother to kill the family. If you remember the scene of him arguing with his mother in the bathroom, you will hear her say something like, "you have to kill them to live/be free." When Elise "kills" mom in the spirit world, Parker is freed from her torment, which was the motivation all along. The editing suggests this happens simultaneously, but just imagine a sequence where the mom died, little Parker/Marilyn takes off the white dress, Big Parker/Black Bride is sucked out of Josh, and then Josh drops the hammer. Actually, I think we do see the Black Bride reaching towards the audience as her body is pulled backwards into darkness.
