Princess Diana : who to play her in a movie

who to play her in a movie

I've seen articles about different people who are getting ready/want to play Diana in a movie. I read Lindsay Lohan, Keira Knightly, and Scarlett Johansson.

Personally I think none of them could pull it off, they look nothing like her and two of them aren't even British. Not to mention, none of them look mature enough or old enough. They may be close to the age Diana was when she married Charles, but she looked older and more mature than them.

My personal vote would go to Natasha Richardson. The first time I saw the Parent Trap, I thought she looked a little bit like Diana -- the way her hair was done and the clothes she was wearing. Her maturity level and facial features seem much more appropriate for the role. Not to mention, she's British.

Diana was less a beauty queen type and more a natural down to earth beauty. The actress who plays her should have the same qualities. All three of those others are beauty queen types -- Hollywood girls. Diana may have lived that kind of life outwardly, but her inner life was very different.

ANS: Is there another movie coming out? As far as who should play the princess, she need not be British. British actress Vivian Leigh was Scarlett O'Hara.

Re: who to play her in a movie

I agree with your thinking on the looks front, I think none of those actresses listed could pull the job off convincingly either in looks or acting. It would have to be an actress who totally submerses herself in a role and takes on the subjects mannerisms as well as baring a resemblance too. The last time I saw her play the role of Diana I was a mere child, but I recall Catherine Oxenburg (Dynasty fame) doing an excellent performance as a young Diana. Who knows what she looks like now?

Re: who to play her in a movie

I would have to add Courtney Love to the above list.

Re: who to play her in a movie

If anyone could Diana justice in a film I would suggest Cate Blanchett.

I've seen her in many films and she just seems to inhabit any role she's given perfectly be it a Tudor Queen, a r 1ebc ookie Irish journalist or a MALE rockstar. She's the type of actress who stays true to the character she's playing and when you watch her you don't see Cate, you see Elizabeth or Veronica.

Not to mention she's physically quite similar to Diana, tall, willowy, blue-eyed, blond and quite beautiful. She certaintly isn't a quintessential beauty queen or Hollywood girl. And that's a good thing IMO.

Re: who to play her in a movie

Natasha Richardson definitely had the whole 'Diana' thing going on in The Parent Trap but she has changed since then. Plus, while I do still like her, I don't think her acting chops could pull this off. No offence.

Cate Blanchett is a good choice. I think she could do a pretty good job of it. Probably win another Oscar- I mean come on, she would be portraying Diana!

Re: who to play her in a movie

Diana was too unique. I don't think anyone can pull this off. And if they do cast someone in the role, she would never equal the Oscar-winning triumph of Dame Helen Mirren, who was just perfect as The Queen.

Diana was so huge an icon that there has been no standout public figure that the world looks up 2000 to since her death. Oprah and Hillary Clinton are perhaps the most powerful, but neither has Diana's fame or stature. And neither do any of these Hollywood babes.

Diana can't be replaced in real life, and it is doubtful that the Princess can be duplicated on the wide screen either. Her brother Lord Spencer said it best at her funeral (watched by a record two and a half billion people): she was simply extraordinary and irreplaceable. The part would overwhelm anyone who dared slip into her shoes.

Re: who to play her in a movie

REF: The part would overwhelm anyone who dared slip into her shoes.

ANS: She would probably have to be a relatively unknown actress. If she did a good job, she might turn into another Vivian Leigh. She was unknown to American audiences before "Gone With The Wind."

Are there serious talks of another movie coming out?

Re: who to play her in a movie

Why do I feel Gwyneth Paltrow?...or maybe Naomi Watts?
Not being British is not a big deal if they can work on their accents.

Lindsay Lohan? as Princess Diana? I'd boycott Hollywood for GOOD!

Just in case you're interested, it's called the suprasternal notch.

Jennifer Saunders (with Dawn French as Fergie?)

Re: who to play her in a movie

The girl who played her in "Charles & Camilla: Whatever Love Means" was really really good. She got the mannerisms quite well and looked alot like her (though she looked like her when she was young and just engaged to Charles). Her name is Michelle Duncan.

here is a compilation of clips from the film:

Re: who to play her in a movie

Well Natasha Richardson can't play her now can she..?

Re: who to play her in a movie

I adored this woman, but there is absolutely no reason to have another movie about her. There have been so many already, and the poor woman has been gone since 1997. What else is there to say? Let her rest in peace.
