Michael Parks : Small town sheriff in 'From Dusk Till Dawn'

Small town sheriff in 'From Dusk Till Dawn'

Mr. Parks was so outstanding in the mere THREE MINUTES he was on screen in 'From Dusk Till Dawn' that he put together a more compelling character than anybody else in that entire film. Just a salt-of-the-earth, rusty old small town western sheriff with TONS of character. I was genuinely INTERESTED in this guy! And of course Robert Rodriguez (or should I say Quentin Tarantino) instantly killed him off just as we were beginning to really like the guy. I was really pissed at how nonchalantly they killed him in undramatic fashion. That left a sour taste in my mouth, which is not the way to set up a movie! Siskel and Ebert agree with me!

Fortunate that both Tarantino and Rodriguez have since brought him back on a number of occasions (check out Kill Bill, Planet Terror and Death Proof).

Re: Small town sheriff in 'From Dusk Till Dawn'

The fact that he was so likeable is a testament to how insane the character of Tarantino is as he nonchanlantly blows his brains out. Great way to start the movie IMO. In fact, one of my fav introductory scenes ever in a movie.
