Re: Favorite Harry Album?
^ I know, shelly. Harry deserves SO much more attention than he gets. In my opinion, Harry was the most talented and gifted singer, songwriter and just all-around artist of the last 50 years. And I've only become a fan in the last year and 1/2. I knew his songs before, but I didn't know who sang them, haha!
Here's my top 3 at the moment:
Nilsson Schmilsson
Son of Schmilsson
Ariel Pandemonium Ballet (I know it's a remix of his 2nd two albums, so I don't if that counts.does it?)
I have to give an honorary mention to 'Harry' and to 'Duit On Mon Dei'. I LOVE those albums. People talk so much about Harry's voice never being the same after the infamous 'Pussy Cats' sessions, but he has some incredible moments on 'Duit On Mon Dei'. Even on 'Sandman' and 'That The Way It Is'.
Listening to: HARRY NILSSON - Of course. :)

Re: Favorite Harry Album?
Hi Shelly,
Well, what happened was (and this comes from the documentary), during the recording of 'Pussy Cats', John Lennon and Harry challenged each other to a screaming contest to see who could scream the loudest. Turned out Harry permanently damaged his vocal chords. He was afraid to tell John, who was producing the album, about it out of fear that John would abort the sessions. Harry told a friend that after some of the takes, there was blood on the microphone(!). After the album was finished, Harry checked himself into the hospital. I'm not exactly sure what they did for him. Maybe got rid of the nodes and calluses on his vocal chords. But, sadly, he was never the same again. I still love his singing even after that, but it's such a shame when I think about what more he could've done with his voice on the post 'Pussy Cats' albums. I mean, he SHREDDED his vocal chords when him and John had that stupid "contest".

Re: Favorite Harry Album?
Hey Sshelly,
Haha! Yeah! That damn Lennon! :P
Actually, if you listen to John's vocals on his 'Walls and Bridges' album and especially his 'Rock N' Roll' album his voice sounds pretty weak at times. But, in his case, he stopped recording after that for almost 5 years. So he had a bit of a break unlike Harry. I actually get pretty damn depressed when I think of what Harry could've for YEARS after '74 if he didn't destroy his voice. So sad. :/
'That's the Way it Is' is actually pretty darn good. Harry sounds great on the George Harrison's 'That is All'. H5b4e hits some nice high notes. And I LOVE 'Sail Away'! He sounds great on that as well.
I still have to get his first, last and 'A Little Touch' albums.
Have you ever checked out this site: http://fortheloveofharry.blogspot.com/
?
It's got a huge amount of ultra rare recordings. Including some of his final ones.
Bye for now!

Re: Favorite Harry Album?
I can't believe, as big a Beatles fan as I've been all my life geez, I learned to READ with the lyrics listed on the back of the Sgt Pepper album. and that John & Paul could BOTH say Nilsson was their favorite American music act.
that I could have gone for so long with almost NO idea who Harry was!! Nevermind, tho I have discovered him!
My three fave albums are 'Harry', 'Pandemonium Shadow Show' and 'Aerial Ballet'.
I LIKE Nilsson Shmilsson but I don't see it as this absolute amazing best album, when compared to the others.
If I had to pick a fourth fave, I think it would be 'The Point'. Gimme the 'Ringo' version of the cartoon!!!!
