Politics : Boeing workers in South Carolina overwhelmingly reject union
Re: Boeing workers in South Carolina overwhelmingly reject union
How is this a 'Trump win'? South Carolina is the least unionized of any state in the nation at just 1.6% percent of workers belonging to a union. This outcome is hardly surprising. And South Carolina politicians make it quite clear they want to keep it that way:
Former Governor Nikki Haley in 2014
Workers should be free to unionize or not as they see fit and these SC Boeing workers chose not to. That is their decision. Naturally, this is the outcome Boeing management hoped for when they moved this plant to South Carolina as these workers make 36% less than their unionized counterparts in Washington state. And as they are building the exact same plane, that money stays with Boeing rather than going to the workers. So a win-win for Boeing management.
I do find it odd, though, when workers complain about current low wages yet oppose unions. Throughout history union workers have made more than their non-unionized counterparts as collective bargaining puts the workers on a more level playing field when it comes to negotiating pay. But to each their own.

We discourage any companies that have unions from wanting to come to South Carolina because we don't want to taint the water

Hey, izzat before or after accounting for the Union Dues?
Re: Boeing workers in South Carolina overwhelmingly reject union
If anyone's union dues are that high they might want to elect some new leadership.

Boeing workers in South Carolina overwhelmingly reject union
Boeing's newest plant in South Carolina will remain nonunion after workers there overwhelmingly rejected an effort by the Machinist union to organize the plant.
According to a company statement, more than 2,000 of the nearly 3,000 Boeing workers at the plant eligible to vote in the closely watched election voted against the union, and only a bit more than 700 members voted yes.
I'm making a leap. Well, it's a small leap. It's more of a hop, really.
