Film General : Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
He is one of the few actors who can make bad movies worth watching.

Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
EXACTLY!
The Mist & Deep Blue Sea come to mind!
(though not 'bad' just 'ordinary'.
OR
Maybe since he did "Hung" they can't see past it, just like a hot blonde with big boobs can't possibly act, right?
HA HA

Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
Limited range and just not quite enough leading-man charisma.
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
I actually think Jane is underrated,I saw him in a movie(The Veil) with Jessica Alba last year,it was pretty bad but he did a great job,he played some sort of Cult Leader
OP he has the acting chops for a lead, but I think its just his luck because a lot of movies he has been the lead in have not done well, which is not totally bad as he usually finds character work.
Ask the guards, they'll deny it. Ask the inmates herethey'll cut their tongues out before they talk

Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
Thursday (1998) is awesome, his career should have skyrocketed from that alone.

Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
Thursday and stander are my favourites from him in a leading role.
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
Not everyone agrees, I guess he's had his shot. I was shocked when Hung got cancelled, then again, his costar was Anne Heche, whose own career has chilled a lot since her Six Days, Seven Nights era.

He's awesome in The Expanse.

Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
He's got the curse of being unanimously praised in largely reviled movies.
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
He's a better looking but less talented version of Tom Hardy.
Stander is his best, good leading role and credible South African accent. He needs a good TV series.

Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
As you say..not bad looking and an ok actor..who are dime a dozen in Hollywood. I would of thought he's done quite well, considering he's pretty joe average.
He got to direct a movie as well dark country, a tongue in check road noir; which is barely worth checking out.
some 21st c seen
into the grizzly maze 4
white bird in a blizzard 6
i melt with you 1
dark country 4
stander 5
killshot 3
mutant chronicles 2
the mist 5
the tripper 2
the punisher 2

Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
I thought Dark Country was a good, atmospheric noir that morphed into Twilight Zone territory. It was originally shot in 3D although not released that way in the US. I got a Blu-ray 3D from France and the effects are fantastic and greatly enhance the entire feel of the film.
3D
Interesting. You need a special player for 3D bluray, right. I haven't watched one, as yet. Do you have to wear glasses?
Re: 3D
Yes, you do have to wear glasses. You also must have a TV that also shows 3D, plus a 3D Blu-ray player that's REGION FREE. Most all US Blu-ray players are NOT region free, so discs from other countries will not play. Amazon does sell region free players.
Re: 3D
I bought my first bluray player last year. The shop changed it into an all region player as part of the service. (That's in New Zealand, where finding an all region DVD player has always been easy. I've got so many imports, it's essential.)
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
He was great as Rayden.
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
Casting directors got him confused with Aaron Eckhart for a few movies.
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
He's one of the corniest actors ever and I know he doesn't try to be. He's just a corny presence.
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
For years I said he should join American Horror Story

Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
Hollywood decides that a certain actor (eg. Josh Lucas) has the X factor and gives them the lead role in a few big studio movies (eg. Stealth, Poseidon). If, through no fault of the actor, those movies end up being duds, it's usually the end of that actors chance in major lead roles
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
I love Thomas Jane. I know he'll never win an Oscar, but there is just something about him that I enjoy watching on screen. He's one of my favorite actors.

In recent years, Jane has admit to smoking and alcohol issues affecting his personal life and regrets of not accepting himself as a classic leading man. Yet, Jane feels a purpose to appeal to his core fan base without the Hollywood machine. This gave him motivation to team up with director Phil Joanou and reprise his role as The Punisher in a short film called Dirty Laundry. Of any depiction of the character on screen, this film was the closest to capturing the essence of the Marvel comic as Jane injected all the ideas he envisioned for the 2004 film. It fueled rumors of the new movie now that Marvel retained the film rights back from Lions Gate; however, Jane has gone on record stating he is finished with the character all together.
Thomas Janes future is full of more directorial efforts and smaller indie projects that appeal to his style of acting and storytelling. Hes a diamond in the rough around an industry that listens less and less to moviegoers as well as making stars out of actors who are truly disconnected from their audience. Perhaps its his controversial opinions about the industry that prevent him from headlining any more studio films like The Punisher and The Mist. Maybe the industry believes the ship has sailed on his career. Though this writer believes Jane is still ahead of his time.
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
Any actor who racks up enough days to qualify for their free SAG health insurance isn't complaining.
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
That dreadful show Hung
Re: Why isn't Thomas Jane's career more succesful?
Poor script choices overall had something to do with it I assume. Not every actor can break into the big time, since Hollywood only wants a limited amount of actual "stars".
