Scenes that ruin a movie for you

We've all been there, enjoying a movie, then all of a sudden something so distasteful happens you just no longer like it. You might not be offended at the movie on a principal level (it's just a movie), but you just don't enjoy it no more.

Keanu (2016) - I was happy to see Anna Faris until they start talking about cutting dicks.

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

I'm a fan of the movies based on Nicholas Sparks novels..but you guessed that..
I was so offended watching The Notebook when I found out that James Garner was the actor they used as the older version of Ryan GoslingI just couldn't accept there was any likeness and it just took me out of the movie. I like both actors but not as father and son.

Whole lot of ugly from a never ending parade of stupid.

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

I can't imagine who could play old Ryan Gosling succesfully.. Christopher Lee? No, he doesn't seem like anyone.

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

Yes he does have quite unique features, I was thinking of Kevin Costner or Donald Sutherland or Richard Gere, anyone but f^cking James Garner

Whole lot of ugly from a never ending parade of stupid.

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

scene in David Brent life on the road, when he is is seeing the psychologist and mentions that he spent some time in an institute, kinda ruined the whole movie , bit hard to laugh at character who struggles with mental health and wasting his life savings

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

Blow - Later in the movie, Johnny Depp sports a wig that looks so fake that it distracts me from the otherwise great scenes.

Same thing with The Getaway (1994). Michael Madsen's big stupid mullet ruins every scene he's in, expect when Jennifer Tilly was bent over on top of him.

Edit: I read the OP wrong. I still enjoy the above movies, but I really have to be in the mood to watch such annoying hairdos.

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

It's happened to me a bunch of times but i cant think of any examples right now.

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

Any scene where the movie tries to explain its point, as if the audience is too dumb to figure it out on their own.

Room was a fantastic movie, but the end scene had me on pins and needles because it dangerously flirted with ruining the movie. It came very close to happening when the kid mentions that "room" only looks small because the door is open. Had the director felt the need to have characters start talking about spacelarge and smalland how the oppression of "room" was also comfort for this kid because it was familiar and things like that, it would have killed it for me.

That's one of my biggest beefs with Psycho: we are literally told the entire plot of the movie we just watched.

"In this scene, you will gargle with mouthwash! Andaction!"

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

Yeah, but back then people weren't savvy, intelligent movie-watchers like we are today and probably needed their hands held through those plot points in order to fully understand what they had just watched.

who's scruffy lookin?

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

But surely there's a better way than that?

Yeah, we didn't need that.

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

Nah, I don't think one bad scene in a movie I like ever outright ruined the movie for me.

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

Hacksaw Ridge: Vince Vaugh picking up the blown apart upper torso of the dead solider and using it as a shield as he ran down the field with his machine gun. I don't think I ever seen a stupider scene in a movie. I suddenly thought I was watch a Monty Python comedy.

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

Thanks for the warning re: Keanu.

Re: Scenes that ruin a movie for you

Hayden Christensen's ugly rapist mugshot being photoshopped into the ending of Return of the Jedi.
