The Red Tent : did that really happen (spoiler)

did that really happen (spoiler)

i grew up catholic, so i don't know enough about bible details to knowbut did simon and levi really kill their sisters lover and every man in his family?

i appreciate an answerthanks so much

Re: did that really happen (spoiler)

It's a biblical story. There is not really historical evidence to support any of it.

If you're asking if it is accurate to the story in the Old Testament, then yes.

Re: did that really happen (spoiler)

thanks.i have actually read some of the bible and don't remember it
i appreciate your answer.

Re: did that really happen (spoiler)

I didn't remember much about Dinah either. Some interesting interpretations here:

P.S. I always pronounced the name DIE-nah, not DEE-nah.

Re: did that really happen (spoiler)

Actually, the movie twisted what you find in the Old Testament. Dinah was raped by the man. Scripture says that she was defiled and humiliated by him. So they were not husband and wife or lovers like the movie tries to portray and twist!

Re: did that really happen (spoiler)

The Red Tent is a work of fiction by Anita Diamant. She was inspired by the biblical stories but used her imagination to weave possible history into a story starring Dinah, daughter of Jacob and sister of Joseph.

She never claimed the book was a literal interpretation of the old Testament of the Bible.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Re: did that really happen (spoiler)

My comment was in response to someone asking if that is really what happened. I understand them taking artistic license, but then people believe that over the real story that it is based on. Just trying to make sure people don't view the fiction as what happened historically.

Re: did that really happen (spoiler)

does the catholic church continue to not encourage their members not to read the bible? my pastor always says please do your own study of the Bible and not just take my word for what I say here.

i know the catholic church fought hard with people like Martin Luther who wanted the Bible in his people's language so they could read it for themselves. The church for one didnt think the people were smart enough to discern what the Bible had to say, but more importantly wanted to keep power over them.

if you believe the Bible is a bunch of nonsense then dont bother though their are all kinds of interesting stories. if you do call yourself Christian or Catholic then I encourage you to read the Bible so you can learn more and be empowered more. That way you can agree or disagree with what is being said by your priests, pastors, those in church, or at school, or your parents or friends.

No it doesn't.

Yeah, that happened like five centuries ago. To be fair, studying the Bible was still discouraged well into the 20th century, right before the Second Vatican Council
