It's a biblical story. There is not really historical evidence to support any of it.

Actually, the movie twisted what you find in the Old Testament. Dinah was raped by the man. Scripture says that she was defiled and humiliated by him. So they were not husband and wife or lovers like the movie tries to portray and twist!

The Red Tent is a work of fiction by Anita Diamant. She was inspired by the biblical stories but used her imagination to weave possible history into a story starring Dinah, daughter of Jacob and sister of Joseph.

She never claimed the book was a literal interpretation of the old Testament of the Bible.

My comment was in response to someone asking if that is really what happened. I understand them taking artistic license, but then people believe that over the real story that it is based on. Just trying to make sure people don't view the fiction as what happened historically.

does the catholic church continue to not encourage their members not to read the bible? my pastor always says please do your own study of the Bible and not just take my word for what I say here.

i know the catholic church fought hard with people like Martin Luther who wanted the Bible in his people's language so they could read it for themselves. The church for one didnt think the people were smart enough to discern what the Bible had to say, but more importantly wanted to keep power over them.

if you believe the Bible is a bunch of nonsense then dont bother though their are all kinds of interesting stories. if you do call yourself Christian or Catholic then I encourage you to read the Bible so you can learn more and be empowered more. That way you can agree or disagree with what is being said by your priests, pastors, those in church, or at school, or your parents or friends.
