Jack Kerouac : he hated the hippies… the seed hates the tree

he hated the hippies… the seed hates the tree

awesome that he turned on the people he influenced

felt that the "LSD heads" only stared up at the sky with empty souls

shows that he really didnt want to "start" anything

he was just writing about things he enjoyed

"you people protest, and make a living only protesting things... I create, write about people that I love and learn from"

OH YEAH!

Re: he hated the hippies… the seed hates the tree

yeah, kinda ironic eh? I still kinda like that about him though, because his stuff can touch anyone in any group or whatever. People are so much more than their labels or sterotypes and I think he saw that....

Re: he hated the hippies… the seed hates the tree

What he didn't like was how it became commercialised and compartmentalised. People wanted to become beatniks and then hippies. The falseness of it.

But you have to also remember as he got older his mind cracked and he became a drunk *beep* His aspirational, inspirational Buddha-nature got consumed and destroyed by alcoholism and lingering right-wing *beep* Catholicism (not saying all Catholicism is like this . . . it is, but that isn't what I am saying here). Had he not fallen apart and been ravaged by self loathing he would have accepted hippies, Ginsberg did even Cassady did.

Read Big Sur (if you haven't) it deals with the time when he finally failed in his struggle to stay centred.

Possibly... Or... It might be that Jack Kerouac truly "found himself" in his old age and -- unfortunately for him -- his true nature was bigoted, caustic, narrow-minded, and hypocritical. Who knows.

It is strange how many of Kerouac's devotees brush off his life-long antisemitism, his deep-rooted racism, and his murderous jingoism. Yes, the artist's poetry was beautiful, but the artist himself was a vile man. There is a considerable gulf between Kerouac as a person versus his art.

He was in Vietnam. Gave him sernyl. Horrible. It is LSD. He hated it.

Hippies hated him because they beat him to death May 5 1969.

Is Cinco we Mayo a real Mexican holiday folks or are you celebrating his death?
