Waylon Jennings : One of the Coolest Men Ever

One of the Coolest Men Ever

I miss this man. Lots of great songs, especially "If You See Me Getting Smaller", "Luckenbach, Texas", "Gold Dust Woman"

Re: One of the Coolest Men Ever

I went to a summer benefit concert (early 1990's) and he was great with the group Highwaymen. I saw J. Cash,W.Nelson,K. Kristofferson and the great Waylon play and it was a perfect afternoon for music. I read that his life was spared in 1959. He didn't join Valenz and Holly on that ill-fated plane, and I guess it haunted him, through his lifetime.I guess God gave him a blessed future to write music, sing and show his guitar talent. I still love his tunes and enjoy the duets with Nelson. Don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys, and Good Hearted Woman will always be my faves. I also loved His duet w/ Cash- No Good Chain Gang

Agreed.

Re: One of the Coolest Men Ever

I'm a huge Waylon fan. I've got all his songs, and it makes me sad sometimes to know that what I have is all there's ever going to be. I'm only 24 years old and never, for the rest of my years, will I hear Waylon sing a new tune. I didn't get into his music until after he died and I really wish I'd had the opportunity to appreciate his work sooner.

Although, when I was a kid, I loved "The Dukes of Hazzard". It was a silly show, but I ate it up as a kid. I used to walk around and sing the theme, endlessly. It wasn't until years later, when I started getting into his stuff, that I learned it was Waylon. So, I guess, in a way, I did get to enjoy him while he was still with us. To this day, when I hear the opening chords to the actual theme song (not the single), it takes me back to a cool place.

Sorry to get long-winded (typed?), but I just wanted to agree that Waylon seemed to be one of the coolest dudes ever.

Sexiest voice of all time! No question about it, God broke the mold when (He or She or It) created Waylon. RIP Waylon Jennings

boandlukeduke1978:

Not everyone sees it as you.

Case in point, I am Native American and the way I was taught to believe was in a greater power. The ancient ones did not say one way or another it was male or female spirit! Other than the bible ( And I do understand it is the holy text of Christians it was not written by my people the Dine'!)

Therefore, in your view ( the Christian view it is a male) and in my view the Native American view. The great spiritis a power not defined by the limitations of men. Hence why I covered all points of view! Thank you for your point of view. Realize there are a lot of points of view. There are more native people besides American Indians African tribes, Abroiginals and numerous other tribes( too many to name)! Your assumption is that we believe as you do and that is your mistake. The orinial text was to praise Waylon Jennings. Therefore,I repeat the Great Spirit broke the mold when ( He, SHE or IT) made him!

Thank you.

Re: One of the Coolest Men Ever

was he in shock when they diagnosed him?

Re: One of the Coolest Men Ever

Let's go to Luckenbach, TX with Waylon and Willie and the boys.

Re: One of the Coolest Men Ever

One thing that made Jennings special: Celebrity never changed him much. He never let success go to his head. All we need do is look at celebrities today to see that most let their fame get the better of them.

Re: One of the Coolest Men Ever

Exactly, roger-395! He never liked all that Nashville celebrity BS. He was true to himself and his beliefs. That's what made him so amazing. He's my all time favorite country artist next to Hank Williams Sr.

There will never be another Waylon Jennings. Travis Tritt and Jamey Johnson are close but not that close

Re: One of the Coolest Men Ever

I agree. Waylon was incredible. I was lucky enough to see him twice in concert-once solo, and once with the Highwaymen. My daughter, who is 27, has become a HUGE fan in the past few years-it breaks my heart that she'll never get to see him. He left wayyyyyyyy too soon. She had a baby boy in June, and actually named him Waylon. His music will live on and on, for many future generations.
