Oldboy : Why so many people captive in different cells?

Why so many people captive in different cells?

I understand he kept him captive for a reason, but why so many others? for what reason?

Re: Why so many people captive in different cells?

In the original at least it's a 'business' of sorts where you can hold someone captive (or yourself if you need to lie low). Copley only had Brolin held captive, the other people weren't connected to him.

Re: Why so many people captive in different cells?

That group ran by Sam Jackson's character seemed to be only doing it for the money. At every turn they only seemed to care about money and nothing else, so these guys could by all means be called businessmen of a cutthroat line of business to begin with.

As for the reason why someone or some people would want to hold such a large number of people captive for various amounts of time is beyond me.
