Film General : Michael Keaton as Batman or Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man?

Two very memorable portrayals in two very different comic book worls but which portrayal did you prefer and who did yo find more believable in the role: Michael Keaton as Batman or Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man? And whose films did you prefer overall? How did you rank/rate their films in their respective franchises?

Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man by far just because he did a trilogy of films and was in three great films. Plus, I grew up with his portrayal as Spider-Man.

Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. Maguire was likeable, which was key. I love Michael Keaton in general, but I prefer him in comedy.

I am among the minority who thinks that Keaton was a rather unmemorable Batman.

Keaton all the way. Maguire did a poor job, as seen when he tried to carry the horrendous Spider-Man 2.

Keaton as Batman by miles. Went to the cinema to see that when I was young. The hype for that film was massive. Not really a big fan of comic book films now so don't think the Spider-Man's are that great.

This is tough question.

I think they were both great in their roles. Keaton is the bigger surprise because he simply doesn't look anything like we would expect Batman/Bruce Wayne to look but, until Affleck, was my favorite Batman. After having watched both films again not too long ago, I think the first films by each hold up exceptionally well.

1. Batman 89 - I give this a slight edge because it is not only a hugely entertaining film but also at times so beautifully shot, and Nicholson as Joker is over the top perfection, great score 9/10
2. Spider-Man - this film has only gotten better with age, minus a few CGI scenes, I almost forgot how much I enjoyed Dunst and especially Willem Dafoe 9/10
3. Spider-Man 2 - this has slipped a bit for me, the train scene is still the best action sequence in the franchise, Doc Ock is another good villain 8/10
4. Batman Returns - darker and yet less frightening because, well, penguins look silly with rocket launchers, Pfeiffer is the best reason to see this film 6/10
5. Spider-Man 3 - too many things going on, one too many villains, too much CGI (though much of it is very good) and why can't we allow Mary Jane and Peter Parker to have at least one film where they aren't in constant angst 5/10

Definitely Keaton. Tobey did fine with his "aww-shucks" thing, but Keaton is the definitive portrayal of Batman.
