Considering the recent influx of original/indie horror films over the past couple of years, most of which have ranged from good to excellent, I don't really see the need for these genre revivals.

I actually agree some good indie horror movies, you're next, it follows were good. Also lights outs, don't breath, 10 clover field lane and the shallows were all decent last year.
I love those franchises I listed though hoping from strong entertaining sequels.

I think a few of them will be solid entry's.
Jeepers creepers 3 will be great no doubt.
Alien covenant will be good, a proper alien movie.
Friday 13th script was wrote by the guy who wrote prisoner's. Now that's some talent for a throwaway sequel. Could be the best of the franchise.
The others probably.

I doubt Halloween will be out this year. This haven't even got a script or started pre production.

I like the looks of Leatherface because I like the directors & I think alien covenant will be good.
Rings probably won't be very good but I am a Ring fan in general so most probably will like it.
All the rest I will end up watching but that is despite the fact I have no real interest. (i just like to be up to date on horror films)

I'll see Alien: Covenant but everything else you listed holds no appeal whatsoever to me.

You have a very different idea of "horror revival" than I do. When theatrical horror movies STOP being primarily sequels, reboots, and cash-ins THAT will be a revival.

There's been alot of theatrical releases that aren't reboots or remakes.
The likes of don't breath, if follows, the shallows, lights out, bone tomahawk, the guest, you're next, etccc
Nothing wrong with a sequel or an interesting remake/reboot.

If their using the original screenplay for Jeepers Creepers 3, then it will be the worst film of 2017. Regardless, I don't think it'll be a theatrical release.

I haven't seen enough of the others to follow them. I've seen only the original of every series you listed except Friday the 13th.

No problem. It made sense to me. I hated the first Child's Play, so I haven't bothered with the others. I liked the first Hellraiser and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but I haven't bothered with the sequels.

Is the horror genre that barren that a bunch of additions to some terrible francises, or some sequels, constitute a revival?
Alien Covenant (and maybe The Purge) are the only ones listed there that I have any interest in. The rest are sequels to films that mostly went to the dumpster after the first film
