Breaking Bad : What rating out of ten would you give each season?

What rating out of ten would you give each season?

Season 1 - 6.5/10
Season 2 - 4/10
Season 3 - 4.5/10
Season 4 - 5/10
Season 5 - 6/10

I thought that season one was decent (although I was expecting better), two, three and four were mediocre and season five was good, but not as good as season one.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

S1 = 7/10
S2= 7.5/10
S3= 9/10
S4 11/10
S5A 8/10
S5B 10/10

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

1- 8.5
2- 8.8
3- 9
4- 9.8
5- 12.5
5B- 9.7

5A: Dead Freight, Buyout, Say My Name, Gliding Over All one after another. All 4 of these are perfect, classic episodes consecutively, best stretch of 4-5 episodes in a row in the series besides season 4's epic 8-9 in a row, but they feel tighter.

Prior, Fifty-One shows Skyler's Emmy winning performance to break the pace midway through, and it's a good point to get bearings on the time line as it's one year through from the start. Before that, Hazard Pay and Madrigal, you have the detailing of Gus' operation into Germany, the introduction of Todd and Lydia, Mike with more screen time. Only weaker episode, still not bad and had great scenes was the first one, Live Free or Die. It's a perfect season that can be reviewed over and over.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

And yet, think Live Free or Die was perfectly placed to come down from the heaviness that was built up thru S4. Think they wanted to get back to some of the lighter material, like S2 had, before steadily ramping back up again in S5, knowing what lay ahead.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

Agree. Good point.

To be exact (I've watched this season countless times), I love the opening flash forward, the lab discoveries and investigation by Hank, Hank and Gomez putting the pieces together, and the discovery of Madrigal, but the junk yard scene and some of the arguing between Mike and Walt is annoying after many watches (first few times, probably still loved that stuff), although I do like the one with Mike's line, "You know how they say it's been a pleasure? Well, it hasn't. " or something like that.

It's still a great episode, but just think it's a little weaker compared to the rest upon review. But I truly love the rest of that season, especially those final 4. I'm not sure why some would rate 5A lower compared to 5B or 4. To me, it's the greatest season of television I've seen and the final 4 eps are too good for tv the way they are made and strung together, in combination of course, with eps 2-4. Madrigal is way underrated too. I love that episode and can watch it over and over like the greats.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

Yeah, think they did as well as possible, under the circumstances of having S4 potentially set up as a finale. Creating all new characters and new stories was likely very challenging that season.

Expect S5B was easier, since they knew they'd have a built in increase in drama, once they knew when Hank would make his discovery.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

I think that's why 5 felt just a little rushed at times, and could have greatly benefitted from a few more episodes to help with the pacing.

Would have caused riots if they ended at 4 though lol needed to wrap up the hank/Walt arc, among others.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

Think they would have been happy to do two 13 episode seasons, but expect it all came down to money. At least it was better than one 13 episode season...by 3 extra episodes.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

Yeah I remember reading that it was so the actors couldn't renegotiate their contracts for more money for season 6. I recall Sopranos did the same thing during last season.

More and more shows are doing that now due to money constraints and costs it takes to film and SFX a lot of these drama/action shows.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

That must be a nightmare for writers, doing a show like this, which needs to have a story line thought out well in advance. It's no wonder that somdtimes they might paint themselves into a corner...like showing the gun that Walt used in the finale, in the S5E1 flash forward...possibly before they knew how it would be used.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

Season 1 - 8/10 (~8.1)
Season 2 - 8.5/10 (~8.7)
Season 3 - 8.5/10 (~8.5)
Season 4 - 9.5/10 (~9.3)
Season 5a - 9.5/10 (~9.3)
Season 5b - 10/10 (~9.8)

^^That's my calculation. 4 and 5a have the same end result but imho the episodes I gave a 10/10 in S4 are slightly better than those I gave a 10/10 in S5a so overall I'd rate it higher.

Do you even know what honor is?
- A horse.

Season 2: 9/10
Season 3: 9/10
Season 4: 10/10
Season 5: 10/10

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

Damn jib jab, I don't know how you can actually rate them that low. 4 and 4.5 for season 2 and 3?? It's all a matter of opinion but that's some serious hate right there lol

S1. 7.5

S2. 9

S3. 8.5

S4. 9.5

S5a. 9.5

S5b. 10

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

I thought that there was far too many filler episodes in the middle three seasons. They seemed to concentrate more on Walt's family drama than actually cooking meth. For every good episode there was three or four episodes where not much happened. I liked the brutality of the first season, but we didn't really get to see that again. They seemed to really tone down the violence after season one, it felt tame in comparison.

I wouldn't describe it as hate though, more like disappointment.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

I'd consider season 1 the least violent season, personally. I agree that there were some slower episodes, but I still found them highly entertaining. Didn't find it had a lot of filler...almost every little detail of the show ended up meaning something to the plot, even if it was later down the road.

But like I said, it's a matter of personalife taste

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

In my opinion after Tuco died the show felt really toned down. It wasn't the same.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

Hmm...I felt like things intensified more as the series went on...and $#!t got real in season 4-5! Especially 5 lol

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

Filler in season 4? Lol. You must not have watched it. After episode 4, even 3, every episode is meaty and gets better than the previous. Only episode that is Filler is Open House, episode 3. 1 is great, 2 and 4 are good, and 5-13 are all classics. You might have mixed up 4 with 3 while binge watching it.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

The lowest point in the show was when Walt and Jesse spent an entire episode trying to catch a fly in their lab. It was leading up to Walt telling Jesse that he watched Jane die, but in the end he didn't even tell him. I think that was in season three. I nearly quit watching at that point.

You must not have watched it.

What? Because someone didn't enjoy the show as much as you did, it means they didn't watch it? Not everyone is going to like the same things. If you can't take someone criticising your favourite show and you come out with statements like that then you have a lot of growing up to do. Season four started off slow and picked up a bit in the last few episodes. Of course this is just my opinion, and I'm entitled to it.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

The Fly episode seems to be highly rated here due to character development of Walt and Jessie but I thought it was merely a filler episode. In fact I feel this was the only filler episode throughout the whole 5 seasons.

Re: What rating out of ten would you give each season?

I don't care if you like the show or not.

I said season 4 is not filler. Period. Except for 1-2 episodes in the beginning. Episodes 5-13 aren't filler.

True but the actual cooking of the meth wasn't the importance of the show, in my mind. It was the drama and violence that preceded it and the constant lies Walt had to tell to hide his Heisenberg persona and constant dangers he was in due to that lifestyle.
