Can someone explain to me why its so wrong to have conservative view points

It is not wrong, I just won't vote for one.

apostate: just because you agree with views held by the Republican party doesn't make you a mindless Ro238bot. It makes you part of a group that are interested in the same goals. I use to be an independent. The first time I voted I voted for a few Democrats, but the further the Democrats moved of away from my views on not only morals, but also on the economy I finally had to accept that fact that I had truly become a conservative Republican. It wasn't an easy thing to accept because we all want to think we are impartial and think independently, but honestly on almost every issue I differ with the views of the Democrats. I am a lower middle class American and I don't2000 think the rich owe me anything. Lower taxes keep for corporations keep [more] jobs in the U.S. unless the Democrats plan to punish companies severely for outsourcing it will continue to happen and even m,ore so when they start taxing them more severely. It's not the poor or the middle class that drive the economy. Middle class people with more money will just buy more stuff at Wal-Mart, Target, Khol's, K-Mart etc. which are killing our economy. I personally do not spend over $500 a year at these conglomerates for that very reason, but I don't want to get tied up in a debate over the economy- I'm just pointing out that you don't have to be a mindless robot to be a Republican. It's a choice just like being a Democrat or an independent. It's not something you just decide overnight and it's not even popular right now to be a conservative so if someone is choosing to be a Republican then they have given it a lot of thought, because the media doesn't agree with most of the moral standing or even many of the economical values of the GOP. Watch a few hours of MSNBC, ABC News, CNN, etc and you will see that the media is slanted toward the Democrats. If you don't believe it, then you just don't want to see it because you refuse to believe it. HWen we were losing the war in Iraq it was all over the news all day long. Now that we are progressing- you hear very little about the war.

Almost all of the Rep. candidates have a plan for providing health care for ALL AMERICANS, but you only hear about the Democrats' plans. As if Republicans don't care about uninsured people. THEY DO!

We can't afford to be throwing money out the window for a 700 million dollar bike trail in Minnesota and other mindless spending and I didn't just hear that figure from a republican candidate- I went and read through (and am still working my way through) the 1300 page long "budget" and 113,000 special interest projects just like the bike trail. Now, I am aware that your thinking right now-"well if we brought our troops home we'd have a lot of freed up money" but here's a question? Where do all those soldiers go for work now? NOT THAT I AM ENDORSING KEEPING OUR SOLDIERS THERE any longer than we have to, but to assume that our economy will flourish when we get out of the war is not as simple as it sounds.

Our dollar is weak, our economy is weak and Immigrants are taking not just the "grunge" jobs- they are taking housekeeping jobs and restaurant jobs that many Americans would be happy to take.

Bill Clinton did not balance the budget himself as many are led to believe. He increased spending by 29.49%, (increased spending? What? Not Bill CLinton!)but lucky for him and thanks to the democrats we (the taxpayers) paid 85.58% more in tax revenue while he was in office, so therefore it balanced out to be a surplus when he left office. Thanks Democrats for making all of us pay the budget! You can find that data by going to the same website and checking the federal budget for the years Clinton was in office. SO when George Bush took office he DECREASED taxes and sent many of us refunds. No one wants to remember that.

The Democrats want to increase gov't spending to give out all kinds of free services such as welfare. What happened to the days when you got tickets for things like potatoes, rice, milk, etc and couldn't buy Lobster with your EBT card? It's ridiculous! I have friends who refuse to work because thy benefit more from welfare. That's a screwed up system!

So don't accuse people like me, who are conservative Republicans, of being mindless robots. I do my research and I know what I believe in. I am going to school to become a journalist so that I can expose this kind of garbage to the people who are too lazy to do research and find it out for themselves. I suppose then you'll just see me as a propagandist, because those who don't want to see what is really going on will not believe it. Good day.

I wish that you and everyone else would stop referring to the debacle in Iraq as a war. If we accept that war is a conflict between nations carried on by force of arms, then we have a problem in semantics. Iraqs air force and navy were virtually nonexistent at the time of the invasion and its under-equipped army was disbanded shortly thereafter. Therefore, what we have in Iraq is not a war but an occupation.
The choice of words is important. The word war traps us into thinking that there must be a winner and a loser, and Americana cannot tolerate the thought of being a loser. Since the Iraqi people will never give up trying to regain their sovereignty, this conflict can never end.
The situation is actually worse than this, because the people who profit from this so-called war are able to keep changing the definition of victory. At first we were led to believe that we were punishing Iraq for its non-involvement in the destruction of the World Trade Center. Mission accomplished. Then it turned out that the invasion was necessary to eliminate their non-existent weapons of mass destruction. Mission accomplished. Unfortunately, the definition of victory changed yet again. The real purpose of the invasion became the elimination of Saddam and the establishment of a western-style democracy. Unfortunately, this mission cannot be accomplished in the near future, if ever.
On the other hand, an occupation is simply something that Americans can choose to end. Why not find and arm an Iraqi leader who will serve western interests and end the conflict? May I suggest that we name this new leader the Shah of Iraq?

Sounds like welfare to me. Let's keep those soldiers abroad killing others and themselves because we don't have jobs at home for them. And, there is a way to create jobs for people- government funded infrastructure spending, something that's been done before and worked in stimulating the economy.

there's nothing wrong with being conservativejust as long as you are it for the right reasons (not because you hate john kerry or al gore, or because you like bush or mccain, but because you support certain issues that are conservative and you dont just follow what your party tells you to do).

Well said, Tareah43. I have both conservative and liberal16d0 views and I vote accordingly. Part of my family is conservative, part is liberal, and I find it rediculious when they all start bickering at family functions. Oh, here's a tip: never mention the fact that Ann Coulter and Bill Mahr dated to a bunch of people in a heated political debate. They tend not to like you at that point. :)

I enjoy what you said that the republican party protects our country and traditions. I will start off by saying I am a very liberal individual I supported Gore and Kerry, and yes I think Clinton was a very good president. I think it is hilarious when Clinton's marital indisgression(hope I spelled that right) a la lewinsky is compared to Bush's horrible use of his executive office. Talk about liberal media, it was that same media that helped Bush lie to the U.S. about the reasons for going to war a la fox news. Ultimately trying to convince the opposite party anything other than what they believe is impossible, kind of like a circle block trying to go into a triangular hole and vice versa. Its ok to disagree, the difference is to not hate the other side, kind of like rooting for the home team instead of bashing the opposing team. Acceptance of other views is important for people to get along. Also I am close friends with a very conservative individual and we get along great, at first I think to myself wow he is soooo wrong, but then I take a step back and realized I only think this because I am looking through a liberal filter. Ultimately I think it is safe to say that neither party hates families etc.(hyperboles) I think both sides want the same thing, affordable homes health care safety, and ultimately it is what every person wants regardless of age, gender, etc. Just two different ways of reaching the same goal.

I have a problem with her because she thinks that teachers should carry guns to the classroom. Teachers are supposed to be role models for our children. What kind of message does that POV send? Also she doesn't think that a woman should have an abortion if she was raped and got pregnant. Would you want to keep your rapists baby?

I don't agree with many Conservative ideas because i personally find them unfair.

First of all, where do they get off saying that gays and lesbians can't get married. and in Massachusetts, where I live, they want to vote on our rights. luckily, they did not prevail (muahahahaha). but what if the tables were turned. I quote someone who wrote an editorial in a local newspaper. "What if we voted on a Republican's right to marry, since they are the minority here in Massachusetts". Open your minds people! it's called equality!

second, it's not fair to take a woman's right to their body away.

third, whoever supports the Bush Administration and the war in Iraq is crazy. all this is doing is killing our country. Conservatives say they want to protect this country when they are doing the exact opposite.

Reverse that. The republicans are the kings of propaganda. Conservatives are now the minority, and their "fanbase" is shrinking rapidly. The current republican administration is the most corrupt we have ever seen. The beauty of being a liberal is understanding life as being more than the persuit of money and power. In all actuality liberals do not want to destroy the country they just want to save it without war and the conservatives want to do it with war. Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with being conservative I just think it is wrong for conservatives to make it seem like your aren't a true christian because you support what they believe. For instance gay marriage should not be a main point of an election neither should abortion. Tell me if you have a daughter and she is in college and she is raped. After she is raped she is pregnant a111cnd because of the preganancy and the mental trauma the drop out of school. According to conservatives they should be forced to keep a child they didn't ask for. I asked a conservative I work with about this he said put it up for adoption. About the gay marriage the only thing a law would stop them from doing is having a piece of paper that says they are married. They can still live together, sleep together etc. How can you be against a woman's right to choose but be for sending troops to fight and possibly die for a cause that they don't fully understand and you won't tell them the complete truth about.
