Brett Favre : Last Name

Last Name

I don't watch football, but I hear this guys name everywhere and it always bothers me. I know that he/everyone pronounces his name FARVE but it is spelled like FAVRE. If he wants people to pronounce it FARVE then he needs to change the spelling so it doesn't say FAVRE. I know that anyone who knows anything about linguistics is just as frustrated with his last name as I am. Some of you might think this post is stupid, but people educated in linguistics are screaming inside everytime we hear his name.

Re: Last Name

Until last year, I thought it was spelled Farve. And then one day I really decide to look at his jersey, and it says Favre. I was like what the hell. For 13 whole years I thought it was spelled Farve. It just kinda seems like it would be better if it was spelled that way wouldn't it?

Re: Last Name

Favre's a Legend, Why dont u change your name. How about DINGLE-BERRY!

Re: Last Name

It's French or something like that so the R is pronounced before the V FAR-VE

Its a great day for America!
Why?
Why the hell not, We're not France thats a start

Re: Last Name

"It's French or something like that"

This man speaks the truth. His name is of French origin, so just deal with it.

Re: Last Name

Yeah, it's just too bad the French don't know how to spell anything properly.

Re: Last Name

Yes. God forbid they spell things their wayseeing as how they came before us to begin with.

Re: Last Name

And they STILL don't even make any sense with their spelling. How pathetic. Because being first does not actually mean sh!t.

Re: Last Name

Favre is indeed a French name, but even in french, you have to pronounce it "FAV-RE", i.e. with the V before the R. French language may not be an easy one, but at least, it has its logic (and I know what I'm talking about)!

Merry Xmas,

"Are you askin' me out? that's so cute, what's your name again?"

Re: Last Name

Thank God I'm not the only one who was thinking WTF. I also thought it was spelled Farve for the longest time only to find that it's Favre. What the hell!

Re: Last Name

A few years ago I saw an interview with Brett where the interviwer asked him about his name. He said his name is actually pronounced like "FAVE", but when he got into the big leagues and the mispronunciation of his name became more prevalent, he got tired of always having to correct people who mispronounced his name and just decided to let it go.
