Chris Evans : Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

those loonies, self-called fans, who used to harass his ex girlfriend even made websites inventing horrible stuff about her, now they harass Jenny, cheer when they get blocked and create a new account to keep on harassing, because for them "internet is free and they are public figures and they have the right to harass public people", they also keep on spreading false gossip from gossip sites that admit what they post is probably totally made up to avoid a lawsuit, but they spread it anyway as facts.... and somehow with all that sh*t, they are convinced their morality is close to sainthood and they have the right to invent and spread or twist whatever they believe is the right morality people should live by.

I´m glad for Chris, that he has his gf to join him for this trips... specially because that makes those loonies explode with envy.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

Seriously, what's up with that post. I was hoping someone could explain it to me.

Seriously, what's up with that post.

Which post? You're going to have to be a bit more precise.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

it's really sad! she was so young! she fought really hard!

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

thanks for letting us know. a very sad case.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

Thanks for passing on that really sad news, picap.

I actually think Chris would be uncomfortable about the way that article focussed on him. However, the tragic thing is that young people dying of cancer happens every day and the connection with Chris is actually what made poor Lilley's story stand out.

@zakopane90 I'm actually sorry that person's thread got deleted again because I loved your reply!! "you're talking like a man in a bar who's had too many beers and is talking too loud".

Also if you did happen to theoretically live in Sydney I would definitely go and see if you could see Chris. You know you want to

@mechevpao9 Cool interview. That Jeremy Helligar! Twelve years a fan and here's me thinking I'm great for notching up ten years. I bow to his greater experience

I agree about Cellular btw. I never, ever tire of watching that film. https://youtu.be/s2-wO0kG8as

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

yeah, Cellular it's one of my parents' favorite too.
I have a soft spot for NATM, it's not a good movie but it is one of the best parodies on other films, specially because when I was a teen, there were coming out all those teen movies with Freddy Prinze Jr and the Dawsons's Creek cast etc, and nothing against the actors but the material was dumb, so it was good to see those under some humor.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

I have a soft spot for NATM

I'm going to expose my total lack of maturity and admit I'm doubled up laughing all the way through that film. I try not to watch it too often so the effect doesn't wear off.

I know!! It's not often but once in a while when I just want to laugh, I watch it

"marvel is making the best superman movies"

http://www.polygon.com/2016/11/18/13668760/marvel-superman-captain-america

Captain America is all the things that Superman’s critics say would keep him from working well in modern cinema. He’s over-powered and “boring.” He’s a boy scout, both figuratively and possibly literally. That doesn’t work in a world where everyone is compromised and there is no clear line between good and evil.

And Marvel knows it. That’s what makes the writing of these films, and Chris Evans’ performance, so good. Warner Bros. created a Superman who reacted to our time by becoming just another dude who can fly and hit people hard, but is otherwise mopey and resorts to killing his enemy in the first film. They didn’t even try to craft a hero who was at odds with the world, they just gave up on the idealism.

Kevin Feige, Head of Marvel Studios, is a man who is busy non-stop furthering the Marvel Cinematic Universe and with that he knows the ins and outs of the studio and has now talked about a few things like actors' freedom, contracts, diversity, working with 20th Century Fox, and a bit more.

[Excerpt]

Some actors have been playing certain characters for close to ten years so are some ending their longevity as the characters?:

Luckily we don’t have to make that decision anytime soon. There are a lot of movies that everyone is signed on for, and we get to enjoy them for a long time. Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man, and right now I can’t envision anyone else. Chris Evans has embodied Captain America as well as any actor has ever embodied an iconic pop-culture figure like that. I go back to Chris 7ec Reeve as Superman as the gold standard, and I think Evans is right there. I couldn’t imagine anybody else.

But you also look to history: We have a new Spider-Man right now who was in our “Civil War” film and is in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and the audience has embraced it. And you can look to Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, and Batman as characters that last longer than any one actor playing them. There’s a precedent for it in other franchises that suggests it’s possible. But right now I don’t want to think about it and don’t need to think about it.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

Well.... Feidge said people embraced the actors changing when they play a certain character but truth is, he compared Chris's work up to reeve´s as Superman and we all know how many times that character has been played after reeve and no one is up there yet, both Superman and Cap are not easy characters to play.

Ok, so fun fact. Carly Evans (Chris Evans’ sister and mother to his “I don’t wike it nephew”) is an English teacher at my school and directs the school play each year (this year was “how to succeed in business without really trying”). So anyways, throughout the play, there is a narration of excerpts from the book the main character is reading, and she got Chris to record himself reading the lines and that’s what we used in the play!

The Playlist: The 30 Best Performances In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Oliver Lyttelton

November 3, 2016 12:37 pm

This week, “Doctor Strange” (it’s pretty good! Read our review) becomes the 14th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an expansive, pop-culture behemoth that’s also expanded to television. From the very beginning, these movies have attracted a high calibre of talent — Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges in the first “Iron Man,” for instance — but they’ve only become more and more magnetic to big stars as they’ve become better and better (and, presumably, paid their actors more and more), arguably culminating in “Doctor Strange,” which with a cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen and Benedict Wong, could put many awards movies to shame.

With this movie particularly in mind, it felt like a good time to focus on one of the things that have made the Marvel movies so popular: the performances. That might sound like a ridiculous statement, given the amount of CGI and explosions in these films, but people keep coming back to the MCU because they love the characters and love seeing them bounce off each other, and they love the characters because of the performances.

So, to celebrate the entry of Cumberbatch, Ejiofor, Swinton and co. into the MCU, we’ve picked out our 30 favorite performances from the Marvel movies and shows, and ranked them below. Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments.

Interesting list with some surprising placements and exclusions (SLJ for Winter Soldier and Michael Douglas for Ant-Man really should be on it and Bautista at #12??? } but drumroll....

1. Chris Evans as Steve Rogers in “Captain America: The First Avenger” (2011 )
Chris Evans reportedly turned down the role of Captain America when he was first offered it, and it’s not hard to see why: In a cynical modern era, the idea of a literal representation of great American values could have seemed doomed to looking sort of lame. But thank God he didn’t, because if Downey Jr. is the brains and wit of the MCU, Evans is its heart and soul. The kind of heart-on-sleeve, all-American sincerity that he has to do here is unbelievably tough to pull off, but since the very beginning (especially in the beginning), as a surprisingly not off-putting digitally shrunk Steve Rogers, Evans has managed it: clear-eyed but not finger-wagging, amused by his friends but not necessarily funny himself, driven above all by a love for his fellow man. That Evans can make him not a fusty bore, but a real hero and role model, is a hell of a feat.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

Evans has managed it:

Certainly has!

Thanks for that post, picap. Really made my day!!

Sharp intake of breath. As my avatar shows this for me is one of Evans's finest performances. I think I love The First Avenger more and more. I honestly don't think you can REALLY watch it and not appreciate what it is that makes Chris Evans such a loved performer. Anyone who doesn't get it is missing out.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

And they have Robert redford in that list, and they put Anthony Mackie, Kristen Ritter, Hayley Atwell and Vincent D'enofrio all in the top 10. They are all my favorite actors in the MCU.

I like that they were bold and instead of putting Downey in the first place they gave it to Chris, not that he wouldn't deserve it because it is as they said, without Downey it wouldn't have had success in general, but the hardest character to play, the one everyone said was a bore etc... that was Cap and Chris made him work and it's also his chemistry with Downey, with Mackie, with Scarlett, with most of the other actors, it looks convincing that he is Cap.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

I don't know if you posted this one...

the first part is about the brand http://www.bosshunting.com.au/2016/11/17/success-and-scotch-whiskey-chris-evans-interview/

but I leave this part, which is more about him

What’s it going to be tonight then? (at the GQ Man of the Year Awards)

No, well, tonight…the problem is, I’ve got a lot of these today, a lot of interviews, so I can’t be swinging from the rafters tonight (He laughs and follows with a sigh)…and I gotta do this whole award thing too – there’s a lot. Today’s a full day of work, unfortunately.

It’s been a while since you’ve been in Australia, ten years almost, that’s a long time, a lot to catch up on.

Yeah isn’t that crazy? Even more, I think it’s like 2005, wow has it been that long?

I assume that you’re aware that Aussies love a good drink.

(Laughs) Definitely.

Would you happen to know how Australia rates in the Asia-Pacific as far as imports and popularity for Chivas?

Oh God I have no idea. I don’t know, that’s a great question. Like you said, I know that Aussies enjoy their booze but, I have no idea where this racks up.

The Win the Right Way campaign focuses on life success and the teamwork necessary to get there. Acting is naturally a tough business, you yourself I’m sure have faced adversity where the support from others has got you over the line to where you are now. What advice would you offer to our readers who may be currently in similar situations?

Hmm what would I say, what would be the advice…You know I think I would say, and it may not be the most goal-oriented advice because if people are looking for advice on how to succeed, that may not be what I could offer. I would say, if you’re not okay without it, you’ll never be okay with it. I think what I mean by that is, we’re all hunting for a certain level of success to some degree [but] if you can’t wake up every day and find a certain level of peace and happiness in your life without the textbook definition of success you’re never going to be okay, even if you find it. You’ve gotta be able to be okay with your life without that kind of confirmation from someone else’s point of view.

Quite often, success is defined by, or at the least measured by, quite materialistic indicators. So what would be that one thing, that one lesson that can’t be quantified you wish someone had told you?

That’s tough. (He thinks hard and mutters to himself) There’s gotta be a way to do it. In my life, what I’ve learned is that no one can tell me what happiness means, you know a lot of times you base your level of success or happiness on truly what other people think of you, and how other people view your journey. But that’s no one else’s business. I guess for me it’s been realising how little Hollywood truly matters, you know what I mean?

It’s a retrospective thing, how comfortable you feel about yourself and your own position. And if you’re happy then what else matters?

For sure, my level of happiness will never be dictated by my career, my career is very secondary to something deeper.

More recently you’ve taken up directing as a passion, let’s jump forward 10 years. What’s the next thing for Chris Evans?

Personally I’d love kids, I’d love…you know I’m going to get married. The older I get the more I’m very strict in terms of doing what I want to do. And I really understand now more than I did 10 years ago what I want in life. And I want normalcy, I want a regular life, I like being around my family I like being around my friends. I like being back in Massachusetts. Hollywood is fine because I love acting but it’s not what I want from my life. So for me ten years from now hopefully I’m living a pretty normal life.

Well if you equate success with happiness and happiness is that, then you’ve succeeded.

Bingo, very well said.

How important do you think it is for young men to balance work with play?

Well I mean, this is the question, if work can be play then so be it. The truth is, if you can find a way to live your life earning money doing something that you are passionate about then, you know, you’ve won life, you’ve won the game. The big game too.
Amen.

That’s not always going to be the way, you have to grind it out sometimes, do what you have to do to get there. But as long as you have a healthy grasp on what really matters to you. For me, it’s family it’s friends…whatever I have to do to spend more time with family and friends, I’ll do it. If you can nail the two, then great, if not, good luck.

No truer words have been said. Lastly, how many Chivas is too many Chivas for Captain America?

(Laughs) I like that, I think right about the time you start slurring your words that’s probably enough

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

Personally I’d love kids, I’d love…you know I’m going to get married.

Ooo, OK girls (sorry, bsm, zak but I'm guessing you're less interested) did we all 7ec just sit up and go 'ooh'?
Is that a sneaky announcement of an engagement or an upcoming engagement? Or just a clumsy joice of words, which God love him, he has a bit of a habit of doing. Exciting anyway.

OK girls (sorry, bsm, zak but I'm guessing you're less interested)

How DARE you!! The instant I read Chris's comments I grabbed my knitting needles and started work on a little non-gender specific sweater!

It's adorable how that girl is hugging Anthony Mackie... and yeah, Chris seems a bit jealous of that ;)

Maybe he meant “in the future.” But I wouldn’t be surprised *at all if he and Jenny end up engaged/married soon.

I don't know - I'm not one for rumours but what I've seen recently that may not happen.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

LOL I think you should not follow the rumors, they come from blogs in the internet that invent sh*t and some low gossip sites that are so lazy, just pick up that catering toward those.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

LOL I think you should not follow the rumors, they come from blogs in the internet that invent sh*t and some low gossip sites that are so lazy, just pick up that catering toward those.

I don't usually. I was just mentioning that I'd heard a rumour that it might be all over between them. As happened last August when these rumours first started, I'm sure we'll see a photo of them together soon.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

Yeah, I remember those rumors, there is no need for pics of them together, people see them in MA and tell it so on social media, no one bothers them asking for pics and no papz bother them for pics either, in fact they were yesterday at the premier of the movie nocturnal animals and there were only pics of Chris posing with ATJ.
IDK why some people are so bothered about it all when they really keep it low key.
but whatever

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

She kind of needs to actually be divorced - completely divorced - for this sort of event to take place.

Now just because we've lost three sheriffs don't mean we're going to lose four.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

this is the kind of stuff that makes me really laugh, because I know where this kind of information comes from... and those things are private, maybe the divorce already happened or who knows!!
but really this is kind of pushing for things to look in a certain way, coming from the same places where there are a few bunch of people who create fake twitter and IG accounts to do the typical harassing, because they are mad at Chris.. boo boo mad fans he isn't acting out in the way they want him to act.
but my point is, who knows what is going on privately and also we were kind of not taking it seriously on that comment, he has always said he wants to have a family, so no news there.

Re: Chris Evans Appreciation Thread 2

Well, you know, bigamy charges are nothing to sneeze at, so...

Now just because we've lost three sheriffs don't mean we're going to lose four.
