Sarah Douglas : Her peformance in Superman

Her peformance in Superman

Sarah was really brilliant under the direction of two directors for Superman and Superman II. In 1, she got to look menacing and did that well and was much more menacing and sexy in 2. But she was maybe the most interesting character because there seemed to much to her that was hinted at.

Re: Her peformance in Superman

Sarah IS Ursa what a dominant role, an iconic film presence.
My opinion only: personally, I would have no interest in S_I&II w/o Ursa, Non, and General Zod! Jack O'Halloran, Sarah Douglas, and Terence Stamp make this movie, SII, worth watching.

n.b. O.K, O.K. Gene hackman is hilarious, and also makes both movies worth watching

Re: Her peformance in Superman

My favorite part is where she looks at Superman and says "Superman" and throws the manhole cover at him. So hilarious!

Re: Her peformance in Superman

I'm hoping she and hopefully some of the other actors will do audio commentary on the Superman II Special Edition next year. It would be interesting to see what they'd have to say about working on that troubled shoot.

Re: Her peformance in Superman

She is video Viagra in this movie.

"Use the Force, Fluke!"

Re: Her peformance in Superman

Yes, her "Soopermahn" is just classic. I've been saying it for like three days straight and it still makes me laugh for some reason.

Re: Her peformance in Superman

Loved her accent. It seems official that she has just recorded her interviews for the Superman II Special Edition DVD. Too bad she isn't doing commentary, unless she gets called back.

Re: Her peformance in Superman

I remember we were talking about her "Soopermahn" and we rented the movie just so we could see that part! I think we rewound it like 5 times and laughed each time!

Re: Her peformance in Superman

Looks at Lois.

"What an un-demanding male this Superman must be"

That part always gets me

Re: Her peformance in Superman

i'm in the middle of watching S2, and was like "who played her again?" and just love Sara - she's too awesome. i've always thought that since i was a kid. i've always LOVED Superman, Otis as my fave comic relief & Miss Tesmacher as a funny gal, and my fave villian is Ursa tossed up there w/ Lex

"I'm a Buddhist - In case of accident, call a Lama" (The Ninth Configuration)
"It's amazing the energy your mind can generate to keep your legs moving" (Gene Hackman as LEX in Superman1)

Re: Her peformance in Superman

I find her so sexy in this film!

Re: Her peformance in Superman

She is definately a hottie, no question about it. I just did not care much for her wickedness and cruelty in Superman II. Nevertheless, she did an excellent job as Ursa. I'm definately looking forward to the Special Edition of Superman II. The Richard Donner version will be a lot better than the Richard Lester one. That is for certain.

Re: Her peformance in Superman

Sarah Douglas is simply awesome in "Superman II." My favorite moment is when she beats up the redneck guy in the bar by armwrestling him out of his chair and right onto the floor.

Re: Her peformance in Superman

What can I sayUrsa was a role made for Sarah, where villianous characters would become her forte in later years.

She most definitely is the BADDEST OF THE BAD GIRLS I've seen on the silver screen (even if it is a 'PG' flick).those piercingly exotic brown eyes, black-polished nails, her cleavaged jumpsuit complemented by her sultry walk in her towering PVC crotch-boots (making her tower darn close to 6 ft)all accentuated by her unrelenting, capricious cruelty to all men fueled by an insatiable appetite to dominate the universe!!

But OMG, she's truly the first chick to awaken my young hormones back in the Day and the reason why I'm still hopelessly addicted to boot fetishism.SUCH AN INDESCRIBABLY AWESOME GODDESS WHOM U DARE WOULDN'T F@#K WITHZOD SHOULD KNEEL BEFORE HERLOL!!!

Re: Her peformance in Superman

Thanks for the info. I have to look again to see that it wasn't her in the "crude noisemaker" shot. I did hear that story that she actually was the one who fell in the fortress in the end. Wow! Pretty big stunt for the leading villainess to do.
How well do you know her and are you involved in the film biz, if you don't mind me asking? Thanks again.

Re: Her peformance in Superman

Thanks for the reply back! Sure, I'm well aware of the make-up and costuming chores Sarah had to endure to get into character. Read all about them in Fangoria and from old Superman interview tapes (definitely knew she had shoulder-length hair back in the late 70's/80'sbefore her "Falcon Crest" tenure). But heck, all actors have to suffer for their art once in a while (much like Bobby DeNiro packin' on the lbs for "Raging Bull")! Even 27 years later, I gratefully thank Ms. Douglas for breathing life into the devilish, red-blooded fantasy that is Ursaas she sat on top of that subjugated desk in the Oval Office, nonchalantly playing with her planetary sculpture & with Zod staring forlornly at her booted leg in close-up, I instead hear her proclaim to her villianous cohorts "I AM MASTER OF ALL I SURVEY!"

Re: Her peformance in Superman

"You.

What kind of a creature are you?"

It was a fantastic entrance, comparable to Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. I know it wasn't her first shot in the film, but it was nonetheless her entrance.

Her bearing was perfect. Pauline Kael herself said that Douglas "has the kind of face that cameras worship." Truer words have never been spoken. Douglas' Ursa was a goddess.

I also enjoyed the minimalism of her part - I don't mean it was small, but that she was riveting and every second of her screen time counted.

Astounding that her career did not go further. More proof, if it were needed, that the entertainment industry is controlled by addicts, psychotics, and a few (too few) geniuses.

We love you, Sarah!

Re: Her peformance in Superman

Hey, no love for Sarah as Ursa in almost 3 years here. Just giving it a 'bump'.

Re: Her peformance in Superman

We still love Sarah/Ursa!

What's not to love? A role that will live as long as our species survives.

Re: Her peformance in Superman

She was definitely awesome. Part of me wishes that if they'd had a Batman film made then that she'd been Catwoman/Selina Kyle.
