There are many very talented men in this world capable of imposing an appealing vision on the silver screen. Unfortunately, Howard Deutch is not suc an individual. One can coast off his teen comedies for only so long.

A dictionary definition of "talented" states that it means "showing a natural aptitude for something". The defintion does not state "See 'Grumpier Old Men', 'The Old Couple II', 'The Replacements', 'The Whole Ten Yards' and 'My Best Friend's Girl'". I wonder why.

The dictionary definition also doesn't list "Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Akira Kurosawa, etc."

I completely disagree. Howard Deutch has a unique, sensitive vision in his directing. He has won a Best Director Cable ACE Award, and he has been nominated for Best Directorial Achievement by the Directors Guild of America.

The influence of John Hughes can be seen in Deutch's films, and he has a knack for bringing out the best in characters that you want to root for. The little touches that he emphasizes make his films wonderfully romantic, and often extremely funny.

It may be that a person simply does not like "feel good morality tales" that touch your heart and often make you laugh. But within that genre, Howard Deutch is one of the very, very best.

Please direct us to your list of directing accomplishments.

Good point, mlmerit. When anyone tries to portray a Director, who is both artistically successful and commercially successful, as a "no talent" director, then the only logical explanation is some sort of personal grudge, or jealousy.

And in addition to being a wonderful director, Howard Deutch has an amazing personal life, with his lasting marriage to Lea Thompson and his talented daughters Madelyn and Zoey. He is a genuine and dedicated guy, and anyone who "slings mud" in his direction shows their own lack of class and ability.
