IMDb, Can't You At Least Archive All the Message Boards???

I'm one of the many who thinks that IMDb's decision to disable the message boards is terrible and I would love them to reconsider and keep things the way they are (maybe with better administrative rules).

If they're bound and determined to stop them, though, PLEASE can't they archive all of the ones that are here, and just make it so that they can't be added to?

One of my favorite things about IMDb is when I see a new movie, or one I haven't seen in a long time, is to come here and check out the film. I like to see the quotes selected, read the trivia, and read the posts that others had put up in the past. I can't believe that I won't be able to do that anymore!

It was bad when Television Without Pity stopped (this is much much worse), but after the outcry at least they archived what was already there. Please please please do that here!

(This post was also put on the Best & Worst Board)

Re: IMDb, Can't You At Least Archive All the Message Boards???

Yes it would be great if they would archive the individual movie msg boards so we could read discussions.

With this in mind I tried to use the Internet Archive way back machine to access imdb movie board postings No luck. I've used the way back machine before to view archived web pages on websites, it's worked.

Maybe someone here could get it to work:

IMDB seem to have banned archiving:

Ya that's what I found, too.

It is probably already too late, almost all message seem to have been already deleted, if you go on a movie message board:

Casablanca:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034583/board/?p=2

Die Hard:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095016/board/?p=2

They seem to all have only the the most recent message, from 2015-2016 or so, everything older is gone.

From what I understand message on IMDB do not have a long life span, it seem to never have been something that would be kept overtime.

Re: IMDb, Can't You At Least Archive All the Message Boards???

The other day, though, I came across a thread on Martin Freeman's board that started in 2004!

Re: IMDb, Can't You At Least Archive All the Message Boards???

I imagine as long as thread got a message every 6 month (or a certain time) it is kept alive forever, but if it is inactive for a certain amount of time it is removed.

Re: IMDb, Can't You At Least Archive All the Message Boards???

Not true. Threads are only removed if there are too many created for that title, and the thread is inactive. Both conditions need to be met. Example of thread not touched for more than 10 years...

Damn, I'm going to miss this place; it was the only place on the web I posted a fair bit.

Re: IMDb, Can't You At Least Archive All the Message Boards???

What do you do when you take the bin bag out of the bin?

Well you don't keep it do you, YOU THROW IT AWAY!!

The same sort of rule applies here.

ALLONZEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: IMDb, Can't You At Least Archive All the Message Boards???

You're really comparing this place to a bin???

Re: IMDb, Can't You At Least Archive All the Message Boards???

Ah, but that would be costly and take up time, and I think it's obvious that the IMDb and Amazon staff simply do not care about the message boards.

Time to face up to the facts, boards are already disappearing.

Re: IMDb, Can't You At Least Archive All the Message Boards???

That's a great idea. I'd love to read older threads in the future. They probably won't do it.
