Film General : Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
Zootopia actually has well written characters, an interesting plot, and is extremely entertaining. Frozen is just bland nostalgia only being praised for its nostalgic referencesoh, and for "women empowerment" or something, because no other Disney movie stared a woman seeking more in life.
Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
Frozen, seemed it was specifically targeting the 8-12 year old girl market just like Inside OutZootopia was ok, Kubo and The Little Prince blew all three away for me and I'm a growed up.

Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
Frozen and Zootopia are some of my favorite Disney movies of all time, so I guess I'm part of the problem. So my answer is neither. They're both fantastic in my opinion.
Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
Have you seen Moana yet?
Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
Yes. I liked it. The animation was stunning.
Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
2 of the most politically dangerous and controversial "kids" movies ever. I think am going
Zootopia for having a way superior screenplay.

Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
I thought Zootopia was pretty great, and Frozen was aight. It did make like $100,000,000,000,000,000 at the box office though, so I guess I'd pick it for more overrated

Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
Zootopia is arguably underrated imo, an as good live action movie would have been a best picture nominee.
I think that Kubo and the Two Strings is the overrated animated movie of the year (because people often seem to take into consideration Laika and the way they craft the movie vs giant conglomerate and CGI), it was an excellent first watch but not as fun and I don't think it will be rewatchable like Zootopia or Moana.
It is hard to compete with the amount of resource and year's they spend on animation, they throw away a good movie 3 year's into production for something even better.

but to voters at awards shows its not Disney

Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
I almost thought the complete opposite case for Kubo. Sure, the critics praise it but the enthusiasm doesn't seem to be there enough among spectators, combined with that movie's under-performance. You may raise a point about Zootopia and Moana having a more 'rewatchability' value than Kubo. I feel I could watch movies like Kubo again too. I guess some movies like Kubo are more of a acquired taste.
It was a little surprising to hear how Finding Dory didn't make it into that category. I guess that somewhat destroys the stigma how animated winners (lately) have always been a Pixar movie. I heard a lot of award shows have some kind of "clause" for not wanting to nominate sequels for the award. But then how do you have movies in the past like Mad Max: Fury Road and Toy Story 3 nominated for categories?

It is not a close (all the rules are public for the Oscar) but sequels of any kind are an hard sales with the academy.

That why I think that a little bit of bias pro-Lanka, craft into it, did occur among critics and film enthusiast, general audience was not affected by this as much, Laika is so good that it kind of pass for CGI now (and they used more CGI than usual on that one).
Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
What is your theory on why people were more entertained by those movie that they should have been ? What is the factor that blinded people of their actual quality ?
It is hard to see for big commercial movie like that (with no nostalgia factor or big master director attach or prestige to influence people perception).

Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
My little take is how those movies just have more mainstream appeal to the general audience. Theyre made by a successful and talented company that still provides entertaining movies that explores deep messages. For some, this could be a little brand royalty. The company is mostly known for their fairytales, musicals, and other innovative tales. Which probably makes them a safer bet for a lot of families to go with better.
I enjoy a lot of Disney movies myself. But also as a fan of a lot of animated movies in general, Im a little beyond brand loyalty. Once in a while there can be a movie that turns out as good or a little better than a Disney film. Depending on how raw they explore the story and premise.

Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
Now I'm a little curious of why you find Zootopia underrated?
Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
I thought Zootopia was ok, it was interesting but not enough so that I ever have any interest in seeing it again.
I thought Frozen was just plain bad. Olaf was just annoying, the music was average at best but then drilled into your head through repetition.
Honestly of the more recent movies I liked Sing and Tangled much better.

Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
Zootopia is the better film so I guess Frozen.
I'd say that both are much better than the dreary Kubo, though.

Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
In my opinion, neither. Disney's last six animated films have been all great.

Re: Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
frozen. that chick's not even hot
Which movie is more overrated: Zootopia or Frozen?
Now dont me wrong, I dont hate Zootopia. Its a good movie that does something unique with its themes and messages. As someone who studies biology, I like how that movie structures their universe and environments and then apply it all as a social allegory. I thought the movie even handles its story and character motivations better than Frozen. But I just dont find the movie all that special either.
Im just mostly baffled with how it kept earning so much praises and accolades out of the other past 2016 animated movies. Meanwhile you got Moana that seem to become quickly underrated for a recent Disney movie, and I like that movie better than Zootopia. I still personally find Kubo and the Two Strings the best over those two movies from 2016, but to voters at awards shows its not Disney. So who apparently cares I guess? *shrug*
