Shannen Doherty : RIP

RIP

😞

Re: RIP

She did that Mallrats thing which was pretty self derogatory. Apart from that I wasn't a fan of hers.

Reminds me of an ex too, so she's got that going for her, or rather had that going for her.

Rest in peace sad.gif

Re: RIP

I didn't realize this was real! I just read that she died, and she was only 53. While I never cared for her as an actress, I had no idea that her condition was so severe. People are dying so young these days.

Re: RIP

That’s actually really sad. She has been fighting cancer for so long 😪

Re: RIP

i'm always amazed when someone dies so young but this is too much to understand or realize. and this feels personal.

i am so shocked i can't believe this.

but this is not as shocking as luke perry bc that was so sudden. we did have any warning that he was dying it just happened. with her we knew she had cancer a few years ago.

it feels like my generation, gen x is dead now with both her and luke being dead.

this feels like a new age now. and like gen x kids are now officially old sadly.

aren't you feeling very old now thinking about both her and luke being dead already?

and doesn't her dying feel different to you than most celeb deaths in that she was so young and so it is very hard to believe she is dead?

I feel old just thinking about how different things were back in the 80s and 90s: the culture, the fashion, the music, the way Boston looked back then compared to how it looks now, etc. It's a different world than the one I inhabited back in the day. Sometimes I wish I could go back, the past seemed like such a better place (even though it wasn't).

Kinda, though I've grown used to seeing young celebrities die during my lifetime (Gary Coleman, Dana Plato, River Phoenix, Corey Haim, Dustin Diamond, etc.) Some of us just aren't meant to live that long. I've come to accept that. My namesake and inspiration H.P. Lovecraft died of cancer at just 46 years old…of course, back in his day it was more common to die younger and Lovecraft seemed so much older than his years.

The first celebrity death to really shake me up was John Lennon's tragic death in 1980. I was only 10 years old when he was killed and had never experienced anyone close to me dying. Lennon's death made me realize just how fragile and unpredictable existence really is. I couldn't believe that he was gone and would never make music again.

Re: RIP

yeah isn't it funny how your perspective on life and your life changes when you get older? bc when you were 12 you thought your parents' childhood time was such a long time ago and such a different time than the '80s but then when you get to 40 years old you to realize how different things are now compared to back in the '80s and how long ago the '80s were from now.

uh, the past was a better than time than nowadays. everyone being on their phones constantly every freaking place you look in public people not even looking at other people or talking to them. like everyone is on a bus and looking up at the wall instead of talking to other people.

technology running all the kids lives and ruining them bc of it with the lack of connection to people which i'm sure is why movies, tv shows, and music is so bad nowadays since '00s to now. i mean when was the last time you watched a new show that actually is a great show or a movie that is actually great movie made nowadays? there are no classic comedy movies that have been made since 15 years ago. the same with sitcoms. the last time there was a great sitcom it was 15 years ago. and all music sucks since the '00s started all music. and all movies haven't been great in the last 15 years not just comedies.

the reason why is bc creativity is not at the level it was in the '80s or even 'the '90s in movies tv shows or music. this is why we see so many ****ing remake movies. there ar barley any ground breaking films being made since the '00s started and almost no movies are uniquely creative in his time either.

also technology was so sparse that it didn't take over every moment of our waking lives like it does now. with cell phones, the internet and social media we are constantly being bombarded by useless stimuli that takes us away from natural meaningful things. back in the '80s the most time consuming things we had were having to talk to people on the phone and playing video games.

exactly i know what you mean about very young celeb deaths. i have experienced this also with corey haim and dustin diamond like you said as well as the others you mentioned.

why did you say your namesake H.P. Lovecraft? what did you mean by your inspiration?

yeah for baby boomers it was john f. kennedy and for gen x it was john lennon or kurt cobain. i was too young to know lennon died bc i was only 2 then. so for me the biggest celeb death that mattered to me was kurt cobain.

so are you a fan of the beatles?
