Re: Best Video Game Console of All Time, in your opinion ???
I started out on a Magnavox Odyssey back in 1975. Many many great consoles have been out since then. From your list i would have to pick the PS3 as my favorite but the Nintendo 64 as the best.
Re: Best Video Game Console of All Time, in your opinion ???
My favourite was PS2, definitely. However I'm not sure, because of all of the great ps2 games available on PS3, plus the huge RPGs available on PS3 (getting a PS3 for the first time, the novelty of playing a game as vast as Oblivion on a console never wore off) It's as if from now on every older model is going to be absorbed into the current one, into one super console.
PS2 had -
Timesplitters trilogy (still no re-release)
The GTA games
Medal of Honor
MGS games

Re: Best Video Game Console of All Time, in your opinion ???
at this point in time
-Pre-3D era = NES (maybe SNES/Genesis)
-Post-3D era = outside of the original XBox's moding abilities, i would go with either N64 or XBox360. i got a soft spot for N64 because of the GoldenEye etc nostalgia as i played that back when it was new-ish 1997-1999 quite a bit.
but in terms of moding abilities original XBox console BY FAR. they are still decent for playing back SD video on a older TV (not that many still use older TV's anymore though(i don't now that i got a modern TV May 2016) and you can run emulators on them etc.
i am 37 years old (ill be 38 later this year) so i am old enough to remember the 2D to 3D transition well which is pretty much 1995-1997 with PS1/N64 and my graphics card on the PC, which i got 1996-1997, blew those two consoles away and that graphics card is Diamond Monster 3D (i.e. 3DFX Voodoo (4MB) chipset) (i still have this video card for nostalgia sake) and that running Quake etc in OpenGL mode was straight up visually superior to anything your consoles of the time had which is PS1/N64.
but with all of that said i am sure the NES is going to be one of those consoles many praise as it seems to be credited for saving video games etc and has some classics on it. you might as well say that's the first good console but i only had one of those briefly back in the day and was a bit later into it's life to as i want to say around 1992-1993 is when i had it as i am pretty sure it was gone (my mom sold it) no later than sometime in 1993. so i only had it maybe a couple of years tops.
but the first console i remember having Atari 2600 Jr. but to list all of the consoles i had at one point or another (which nearly all is from the old days)
-Atari 2600 Jr
-NES(briefly)
-Original Gameboy
-Sega Nomad (portable Sega Genesis which i did not have for long and took it back to the store for Genesis/SNES i think(?). main reasons i remember getting rid of it screen seemed to scuff/scratch a bit easily/battery hog(and re-chargeables were not good in those days unlike today plus electronic efficiency is nothing like it is today).)
-Sega Genesis(?)
-SNES(?)
-Sega Saturn
-N64
-PS1
-PS2
-XBox
-XBox360
-Sega Dreamcast
-Sega Gamegear
-Gamecube (this was mostly crap though (one console i regret getting overall) which i traded to my cousin for his semi-dead XBox which is when i first learned how to mod em but once i got it moded it was BY FAR worth the trade)
-Gameboy Advance (this GB Advance was more recently here though as i did not have this in the old days unlike the rest basically. i found it dirt cheap and then bought a old original gameboy Tetris cartridge for it as that's really the only original Gameboy game i like to this day).
i was always more of a XBox guy than Playstation especially because of the moding capabilities from XBox/XBox360 made em great. also, in my mind the last great Nintendo based console was the N64 as after that they shifted to that more 'kiddie image' as the more serious gamers seemed to move to XBox/Playstation.
there was also that Virtual Boy but that crap never seemed like it was worth it as by that time i was pretty much done with those more portable handhelds. also, that 32X add-on thing etc for Genesis which seemed largely pointless so i never really wanted that one.
i think that's it off the top of my head but then again that's mostly everything prior to the current generation (besides Wii(which mainly has appeal to more casual gamers and less serious ones it seems) and a little bit else) outside of those super high end consoles from the 1990's that no one could afford besides rich people like Neo Geo/3DO/Atari Jaguar/Turbografx 16/Turbo Express(gameboy like handheld but souped up) etc. but those were sorta doomed because their pricing was too high for most people and the game selections were much more limited.
i put "?" on Genesis/SNES as i am pretty sure i had both of those at one point but i know i for sure had at least one of the two.
with all of that said while i can't claim to be there in the very early days of video games i can pretty much claim to be there in the earlier times. but i guess it just depends on your standard of age where you draw the line in how far back one could claim but i would think anything around 12-13 or so and older is legit enough to claim it. so in a way i can't totally claim to be there when NES was released as i would have been basically too young to really remember it's very early days (maybe 5-6 years old at that time) i am old enough to remember it a bit late into it's later days basically in the early 1990's. so in a way i kinda claim the NES days but kinda do not as i was more of a original Gameboy user from around there on forward.
p.s. i did not bother with the current gen consoles (i.e. XBox One/PS4) as video games as a whole fizzled out for me as by the time i was around 30 years old they started to fizzle quite a bit as i don't think i really played and finished a new game since 2012 or so.
