Film General : Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

March 2006, three accounts. So, roughly 11 years?

My first one was Dwright1212 in the 2nd grade. It was actually my mom's IMDb but she never used it at all and just gave it to me, but I must've been around 8-9 years old. I lost the password in 2011 and was forced to create TheSonomaDude which was my first real account. That one got blocked and wiped by trolls in 2014 and I stopped using IDMb for about a year because of my frustration with the site. Now, I've got my final account, it seems: TheSonomaDude_Returns.

I was never really noticed on FG or anywhere on IDMb, which is a shame because I put many hours into these forums. I've always wanted to be an aspiring filmmaker and have written many screenplays, two of which are currently in the process of being sold. I'm trying to film a microbudget film in the same vein as Pi, Following, Slacker, or Primer in hopes that I can get financing for a bigger project one day.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

October 2007. Though I am an IMDBian since around June 2004. It's sad how we recognize the best things in life only after they are gone. I will miss you all. The words and the voices behind them. Gimme a shout out if anyone is planning an IMDb-message-board farewell party in Bangalore.

If not. We will always have that spoiler we hate. Take care and have fun…

And theres a million things I havent done..But just you wait, just you wait…

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

9 years….I had another account but couldn't remember the password, so I created this one.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

April 2006 - This is my only account and it would have been my 11th year in two months! It will be sad to see these boards go!

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

8 years. One account.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Is it April 1?

Absolutely ridiculous decision. They could cull a few boards to reduce the workload but to get rid of them entirely is utterly bonkers and will surely drives hordes of people away from the site.

I haven't been an active poster for a long time but love scanning the boards anyway, they often provide better info on a film than the rating or the synopsis.

Madness.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

10 years, one account.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

January 2009, so 8 years. 1 account, though with one user name change, and active on a regular basis (almost daily with the odd hiatus due to holidays, exams or illness). Will also really miss the message boards, they and writing reviews are the reasons I post here. Will still keep writing reviews but my time on IMDb may not be as frequent as it was. This is a shame because being on IMDb has really helped improve my writing and social skills, and my film taste has significantly broadened since starting 8 years ago at the significantly less mature age of 16 (by my standards).

Despite the everyday troubles with trying to ignore trolls and people having the inability to accept people's opinions and trying to pass theirs off as fact and law, I have loved the interactions with users and have learned a huge deal about film, TV, directors, behind the scenes and actors. A truly moronic and selfish decision and one that I hope comes to bite IMDb on the bum when they realise that they have lost valuable customers, thanks to troll ruining such a great online experience for everyone and IMDb's reluctance to properly do anything about it, troll behaviour, sock-accounts, abusive users and rigged reviews are constantly complained about to IMDb and instead of doing anything about it all they do is tell the complaintee to report and ignore (which is the equivalent of doing bugger all) when a lot of the behaviour goes beyond violating terms and conditions.

There have been various petitions to keep the boards alive, which I have actively signed and written strong comments opposing the decision. Including imploring IMDb to enforce stricter policies regarding how people act (and to start reading submitted user reviews before approving them, because it is very clear that they don't and now that the message boards are being disabled I'm worried about the entire user reviews system being abused and being a cesspool like it has for some films here). Despite everybody's best efforts though, and next to nobody is happy about the decision (apart from troll apologists and those in denial that trolling has gotten really bad overtime), these petitions I don't think are going to be heeded.

Some have said that trolling isn't the reason and that it's business and financial reasons and a few people cited illegal activity, but excessive trolling that has gotten too much (or too costly) for IMDb to handle, to me is the only reason that makes sense. Will really miss all of you and the interesting threads and conversations we've had.

Member since 2002 Used to post a lot more, but life got in the way.

I hate the idea that IMDB is getting rid of the comment section. It's pretty obvious that it doesn't make them money, so why bother? You can't tell me that AMAZON doesn't have the technical expertise to cut down on trolling, multiple accounts, etc.

I can't think of much of a reason that I will stop in here very much, since it will just be a glorified movie listings site. Another case of corporate bean counting sucking the life out of something that was once great.

You're forgetting one thing- I just started using laser cats again!

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

I've been a member since Day 2 or 3, although I haven't been active here for many years now. I was just notified by an old friend that the boards were closing and wanted to stop in and say Hi and Bye… it was fun while it lasted!

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

May 2005 and this is the only account (and username) that I've ever used to post. I did have an earlier account - not sure why I created it, maybe some of the page info wasn't available without registering? But I never joined the forums with that account, and it was tied to an email address/provider that no longer existed by the time I felt like joining to post. I think I set that account up in late 1999 or early 2000. And before that, I used IMDb for a job I had briefly in 1994-5.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Sad sad how the world is where truly special things are randomly taken away from people that richly appreciate it. There isn't anything out there that will replace this board system.

10 years ONE account.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Been here since March, 2006, and have greatly enjoyed this place, several boards in particular, like A History of Violence, No Country for Old Men, Hitchcock films from Rebecca to Vertigo to Marnie, and even the too rarely visited boards for films by Bergman, Antonioni and Truffaut.

I don't understand the logic behind the decision to remove the comments section, and doubt I will return as much to IMDb once they do. I may spend more time on Amazon, I guess.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Just this one account since July 2006. When I first got on IMDB at that time, I was under a different username (an old e-mail address), then changed it to GruesomeTwosome around 2009. That's around the time I first wandered onto FG, more of a lurker/occasional poster before becoming more of a regular fixture here in 2010.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Not sure how long I've been coming to IMDB, but the boards were probably the top reasons I'd stay engaged on the website.

Giving a show/movie a rating, or looking up whats that name of the actor were merely secondary things that frankly takes a minutes time. The IMDB boards on the other hand would keep me around for long.

It's amazing that amazon decided to close this down. Sad too :( I don't know of any other place like this. I suppose reddit will have to work.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

May 2003, one account, never banned. I've never been anything but civil and, even so, the trolls have never bothered me in the slightest. I've enjoyed the heck out of many of the discussions I've read here. It's an extremely disappointing decision and the IMDB message boards cannot be readily replaced.

In space, no one can hear you scream. On IMDB, we can hear you but we just don't give a crap.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

11 plus years…

This has been the last public service announcement.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

June 2002, really hate to see these boards go. A little moderation would have gone a long way and the ignore button solved most issues just fine. Its a long shot, but I hope they change their plan.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

August 2005… gonna miss all the great information I get from here… wasted a lot of time reading on the site

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

I posted almost exclusively on the film pages. I'll really miss them. It's really crazy to delete such a large accumulation of knowledge.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Since '06. But I haven't been active here for a couple of years.

Thats insane!!!!

I know I've been a user longer than my account says since I remember using the website for years before deciding to make an account, but I don't think it was from day 1 like you… thats awesome

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Wooow, awesome!

This is my oldest account on the internet. Sad to see it ended.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

August 2006…I mostly come to read, not to comment. I guess I will just kill myself

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

^^Whatever it says up there. First started using this site when The Blair Witch Project came out. Can't remember if I actually had a user name before this one–I know I was actively using the site before then. Might've just been reading, not posting.

You'd feel cocky too if you were full of myself.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Nov 2000 for me. Same account.

Don't post much, but I visit quite often and these are pretty much the only message boards I use for movie/TV discussion. I have a handful of credits on imdb that I no longer need to update. So, once the message boards get shut down, I really won't have any reason to come here.

This is my second account. My first account was created Fri Apr 27 2001 and disabled Sat Feb 4 2006.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

October 1999. One account, active almost everyday. Only rating, no time for anything else.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

First account 1999. Current account since February 2002.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

February 2003, only 14 years…

Already moving to TMDb (The Movie Database)https://www.themoviedb.org/">https://www.themoviedb.org/, they have discussions for each movie or TV show and it's pretty open site where you can edit data + they exist since 2008, great alternative.

Also exported my watchlist and ratelist (check both, in bottom there is export to CSV) and easily imported it to TMDb.

There is also extension to export all your Boards posts through Chrome extension so feel free to make backup of all your messages as one HTML file and copypaste threads you created here to TMDb (me personally was usually answering and not really creating threads):

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

May 2016 here!

It's so sad that us old timers only get another couple of days of this. We'll have to stick together and reminisce some before then.

ALLONZEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

Feb 2004 ; so 13 years this month.

and obviously… only one account as only those who goof off need more than one which is childish.

p.s. although i had a computer since 1995 which is basically 3-5 years before computers/internet went mainstream.

Will really miss the message boards a ton. They were the last of the true message boards on the internet….now gone.

what i don't like about them messing with the message boards it's not that they are getting rid of the 'Message Board' section it's that they are getting rid of EVERYTHING in relation to leaving comments which also means we can't leave messages on a per movie basis as i wish they would at least keep that much as you can still find quality posts on random movies in the boards tied to that individual movie. it's only the high traffic areas where you got those goofing off and they are basically the reason why IMDb killed the message boards entirely.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

August 2003 and this is the only account (and username) that I've ever used to post. And yes, I'm one of the very few who isn't incognito here (Miran IS my birthname ).

Was 'invited' to FG (because I didn't even know the Message Boards exist) by dear friend Galina the Great somewhere in 2005-06.

Those were the times (of Wine and Roses)!

All the FG heroes of 2007 are long gone (or silent) so I guees I'll miss these sweet emoticons above all.

Hi Jerry!
Whoa, this IS a surprise!
You won't believe this but I actually wanted to mention you (along with some other legends of that time) in my earlier post.

Long time no see.

Indeed. Where have you been all this time?

Glad to see you're still around.

Re: Longest running active users. Post so we get one last look at ya!

I've been stuck in the real world for years, breaking my back for The Man, with no reliable internet connection. It's been awful. I really missed this place. Now I see it's getting shut down for good. What a tragedy.

Thanks for mentioning me (not that I think I was particularly that legendary), I appreciate it. I would mention you in the same breath though… I always enjoyed your posts.

You can find me on Facebook going by AlexTheRussian. We can stay in touch after this place goes.
