Arrow : So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

a) She was a fool who actually thought they would do her character(s) justice?
b) She knew what a troll Guggenheim is but needed the money?

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new deal?

My theory?

There is more to the story of her being let go than we know, and she thought the contract would look good from a PR standpoint.

It's the contractual version of "It's not me, it's you."

"See? I wasn't fired, or completely replaced. We just both needed more space and I needed the freedom to do other things."

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new deal?

Something like that. I mean, it definitely wouldn't look good on her resume if she departed the Berlantiverse in this manner. Hollywood and tv execs aren't stupid. They know a character of that magnitude doesn't just get killed off for "storyline reasons".

At the same time, we could also flip the coin and wonder why she was offered the new contract in the first place. If Berlanti and Guggenheim came to regret the decision due to the fan backlash they received, they would have treated the character differently. Not resurrected her of course, but at least avoided all the potshots that you mentioned in the other thread. This whole thing is every bit the giant mess it was last April.

And what exactly is the nature of that contract? In theory she's a "regular" across 3 shows. So far this season we've had 29 episodes of Arrow, Flash and LoT and she has appeared in 2 of them.

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new deal?

That 'regular' contract is amorphous. Wentworth Miller and John Barrowman have the same deal, and Wentworth Miller has appeared in what - two episodes of LoT? Maybe one of The Flash? And JB's done one episode of Arrow and between 3 and 4 of LoT. NONE of them are even close to a full season commitment across the Flarrowverse.

I'm beginning to wonder if there was some sort of penalty in her contract - she had the biggest profile of the three actors who were the original leads, right? Maybe it kicked in after a certain # of years?

I dunno. There's a story there, for sure. Oh, to be a fly on the wall.

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new deal?

Yeah, I believe Wentworth has appeared in 2 episodes in total (1 on Flash and 1 on LoT) and Barrowman has appeared in 3 (1 on Arrow and 2 on LoT). Of course both of them are lined up to appear in future episodes of LoT (starting next week), so their appearance tally will rise by season's end. Cassidy's is more flimsy. There's no sign of her appearing on the Flash or LoT this season and I'm guessing she has 1 Arrow appearance left this season, max.

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

She got fired and then she got her lawyers involved so they put her in a few episodes

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

So why did Guggenheim and Berlanti accept her back? They fired Colin Donnell and Susanna Thompson without any problems, didn't they?

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

They didn't want legal problems
And Susan/Collin didn't get fired they got written out

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

That's a distinction without a difference.

Colin Donnell had the same seven year contract that Amell has and Cassidy had.

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

What legal problems? Katie got written out EXACTLY like Thompson and Donnell did.

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

Idk Marc just said her representation got involved code for lawyers

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

Or her agent. Keep in mind, that contract was offered months after Laurel was killed off and with KC thanking the EPs on twitter. So they did say their goodbyes and then someone decided to offer her that contract.

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

That contract is pure bs
Its a demotion
And if there was new contracts how did John B. Not know he was a "regular" on 4 shows
Regular is what they say but they are credited as guest stars
Stuff isn't adding up there if you ask me
Plus unlike them with 4 shows KC is 3 shows
Its all for the tabloids and clickbait

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

I think it's 3 shows for all of them. It's not like Wentworth or Barrowman will appear on Supergirl.

It does seem like a publicity stunt more than anything. Matt Letscher seems to have more of a concrete contract than the other 3. He's billed as a season regular on LoT.

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

I think Barrowman will be in that musical episodes
I haven't played attention to the LoT billing

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

With her skills (or lack of) this was the best she could get.

I don't care about a troll who doesn't pay for his opinion telling me how to review movies.

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

I think she just signed as a provisional character to pop into any of the three (I don't know if that included Supergirl at the time of her contract so we will just say 3) shows. She has been doing other work and could probably land herself another television role if that is what she is interested in, it looks like she has been doing movies so she may want to do that. So it isn't like she is bound to a contract that keeps her from other work. Also, I think many are putting their own feelings onto Katie Cassidy. She is an actress with her own life, I think many somehow believe that she should be railing out against the injustice being done to Laurel but she might not care to the extent the fans do. She might be okay with just possibly popping in and out and not being on full time, especially if she is doing other work. Like I said I think some people are forgetting she is an actress with other interests besides Arrow and are projecting their own feelings on her which is probably not realistic.

Just a girl in the world

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

I actually stated it a couple of times here, I think she is disrespectful to the fans for constantly humiliating Laurel, I now know that all she cares about is money and her short fame as the BC. After the last episode I never want to see KC playing the BC and I don't want the BC at all on the stupid CW! She deserves to be on the big screen played by an actress who will respect her as an important comic book hero!

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

Did I miss something? How come there's sudden speculation on Katie's contract?

Do you mind if I have a piece of your thigh? It would complement this fine '76 Shiraz

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

I'm curious about this as well

i didn't know she was fired over something. i simply thought she was written out of the show

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

It's not like being in a CW show (even a popular one) will make you a star when it ends. We all gotta eat, right?

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

There are millions, literally millions of aspiring actors out there and only a tiny percent will ever get to earn a living at it. The odds of getting a single paid job are impossibly high. To land the lead in a pilot episode on any network, is a miracle. Even if it doesn't go anywhere, or doesn't get picked up, or does but gets cancelled straight away, the actors in it are doing well. So for the actors on Arrow, they've struck gold in the profession to be part of something that is long lasting and steady. Katie Cassidy has been doing it for decades and been in many projects and is probsbly very financially secure. The CW has been great for her.

Sorry to sound like such a prick but I see lots of comments on IMDb that belittle actors on networks like The CW or "television actors" as though they're lesser or lower down in the ranks of their profession. A movie star who appears in hit movies, works with so many legends and has every big script thrown at them, someone like Emma Stone or Jennifer Lawrence, are anomalies in Hollywood. They aren't the norms of what it is to be a successful working actor. Regulars and lead actors in TV shows are still massively successful actors. And Blake Lively is a current big star and she came from The CW.

Here's an idea: next time, instead of being late, just *beep* on my face-Emma Stone

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

Sorry to burst your bubble but after a tv show ends, in this case a CW show, they'll be all back to being struggling actors. It happened with Smallvile, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, etc. Just because you can name one or two doesn't mean they will be big movie stars. For every George Clooney there's 20 David Carusos 😄

Re: So why did Katie Cassidy agree to a new contract?

Probably out of desperation. KC mostly appears in obscure b-movies these days. While her Flarrow guest spots are nothing to write home about, they keep her in the public's consciousness.
