Re: One of the greats
I love Hammer productions! They seemed to always balance camp with mystery. I also liked the ensemble (I like when they do that, and use the same actors). Hammer films seem to elevate the B-movie genre and have quite the cult following.

The Skull is a great example of his acting prowess. The movie is slow as hell, but Cushing is so compelling that you have no problem staying interested.
Re: One of the greats
Yes, and he never seemed to be slumming, even as he so often did. Slum, I mean.
Peter Cushing was a tremendously talented actor, and while he took his work seriously, always gave his best, whatever he working in, he never seemed to be taking himself seriously. The mark of a first rate actor.

Re: One of the greats
My favorite Cushing performance in a horror anthology is in Tales from the Crypt as a sweet old guy who falls prey to a merciless young neighbor who doesn't like him. It's a real tragic and touching role that Cushing brings a genuinely moving pathos to.

Re: One of the greats
Like many of my generation I first saw Peter in star wars. Soon after I was introduced to his earlier work along side Christopher Lee. Both were masters of their craft👍
Re: One of the greats
Cushing was great in Star Wars as Tarkin because he plays it so straight and understated instead of hamming it up.

Re: One of the greats
Absolutely! He was cold calculation combined with the arrogance that comes from knowing nothing but victory at the suffering of others.
I was actually a little off put when I realized he wasn't Vader's boss. I was six…gimme a break😂👍

Re: One of the greats
They had very good chemistry together which made every endeavour successful.

Re: One of the greats
Without a doubt! Did you see the interviews Lee gave with regards to Lord of the Rings? He had a personal friendship with Tolkien so perhaps that was part of it, but I noticed quite the same thing.
Cushing was humble and Lee gave off a smarmy sort of vibe.
