Amanda Bynes : What does she really have?

What does she really have?

Just read in an article from E News that the mom said back in April that Amanda had no mental illness. But I've also read that they diagnosed her with bipolar disorder. Does anyone know what is really going on w/her? Some have said schizophrenia, drugs, adderal induced psychosis..it seems it could be any if these. It's really upsetting, whatever it is. My mom is bipolar and I can see parallels btw some reported behaviors. But most of all, I know that all of these possibilities are life-long struggles and tough to diagnose.

Re: What does she really have?

When Amanda was taken into custody last year(for starting a fire in an elderly ladies driveway) those closest to her said they thought she was seriously mentally ill..and they almost all suspected she had schizophrenia.

Amanda has been exhibiting very strange behavior for quite awhile now. She's had several DUI busts, drug busts, arrests for reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence. She's been put on a 5150 psych hold and then sent to a specialized mental health treatment facility and her parents have held conservatorship over her. Most recently she's been arrested for drugs again and she was kicked out of fashion school a month or two ago. Reports from former fellow students say her behavior was extremely erratic and disruptive.

Add all this up and it's very obvious something is seriously wrong with Amanda's mental health. Maybe the doctors wanted to give Amanda's parents some hope that she can lead a normal life, which now does not seem likely. I really think her parents are in denial, which could make Amanda's situation much, much worse.

In a nutshell I'm very worried about Amanda. She needs a lo5b4t of help and she needs it NOW!

There's no more Hollywood anymore, there's just a bunch of banks

Re: What does she really have?

There are serious issues in the field of psychology/psychiatry you just cannot shake off easily.

for example, there have never been any valid biological tests to prove the existence of any so-called mental illness.

so i would say amanda bynes is probably severely unhappy with her life and has some authority/impulse problems. That's all i can say in my book.

Re: What does she really have?

Yes, schizophrenia is real. No one here has diagnosed her, but she could be schizophrenic.

She's not just unhappy. She has some serious psych problem, exacerbated by pot and alcohol.

Re: What does she really have?

"As of 2013 there is no objective test for schizophrenia and the scientific validity of schizophrenia, and its defining symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations, have been questioned. No biological markers or physiological tests that can be used to diagnose schizophrenia have been found, and there is no clear evidence that the concept of schizophrenia is a valid construct."

Re: What does she really have?

Indeed. But the disease is realyou disagree? From the same article: "The diagnosis of schizophrenia is based on criteria in either the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, version DSM-IV-TR, or the World Health Organization's International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, the ICD-10.[1] These criteria use the self-reported experiences of the person and reported abnormalities in behavior, followed by a clinical assessment by a mental health profes5b4sional. Symptoms associated with schizophrenia occur along a continuum in the population and must reach a certain severity before a diagnosis is made.[2]"

Re: What does she really have?

It seems to me she was late to get it then. Most people come down with it from 18-22.

Re: What does she really have?

It's actually more common for females to be diagnosed in their late 20's. Males tend to develop it in the age range of 18-21, while females tend to develop it from 25-29 (which Amanda is). There's no hard and fast rule of when it can be diagnosed but females tend to develop certain mental disorders slightly later on in life than males.

Re: What does she really have?

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I figured it was the same for male and female, esp. since I knew a girl who developed upon going to college at 18 or so.

Re: What does she really have?

Not too late. She's, what, 25 now? Her behavior was certainly erratic in 2009, when she claimed she was quitting acting. Since then, she began posting erratic tweets, doing drugs, publically undressing and making crazy plans. She lost her license. She was caught smoking weed WHILE driving.

Everyone assumed her quirky behavior was wackiness. Her comedy was probably partially fueled by mental illness.

Re: What does she really have?

Apparently today she claimed to be transferring to NYU or Columbia after getting kicked out of FDIM in LA for cheating/doing drugs on campus/paying people to do her homework for her. In a word, she's delusional, but it runs deeper than that.

Re: What does she really have?

she was 29!

Re: What does she really have?

No, she began acting bad around 2009. She was probably acting odd in the years prior to this. She was very young, and some disease manifested.

Re: What does she really have?

1) You do not 'come down' with Schizophrenia. It's something you are born with. 2) It can manifest in childhood. There are children who hear voices and experience paranoia.
3) It can be misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. I have bi5b4polar disorder and it wasn't until I was 31 that I was diagnosed.

Re: What does she really have?

Again, that article implies that schizophrenia doesn't exist even if so-called diagnoses like these are being made. just saying

Re: What does she really have?

Lol, you're funny. I don't think you've ever witnessed schizophrenia. I mean like, have you personally had any friends that have been so-called diagnosed? If not, go down to your local state hospital and tell the staff all the people there are just unhappy. They might just show you people that were so unhappy they scratched their own eyes out or tore into their intestines with bare hands. That's pretty unhappy right there. It's best to catch this early - usually shows up in early 20's and develops quickly, sometimes weeks and months, from happy normal to "unhappy". Initially acting depressed to family and friends, they may start to self medicate and then withdraw. You don't have to believe in schizophrenia, you do have to acknowledge that people can be "unhappy" to the point they are a danger to themselves and others. We might want to call that very, very unhappy, or ultra unhappy.

Re: What does she really have?

I DID have a friend who was diagnosed as schizophrenic.

The bizarre behavioral things you're mentioning could have been the result of taking psychiatric drugs forced onto these people called "schizophrenic".

Re: What does she really have?

Interesting read - for something written by a lawyer. Words are very important in the legal profession, and as far as he states in his paper that schizophrenia is not a disease - I agree with him. It's like calling blindness or dwarfism a disease.

I feel that something needs to be clarified here:

I think people often misunderstand what this kind of thing means; it most emphatically does not mean that people diagnosed with the mental illness under examination are actually totally fine.

Because of the difficulty in pinning down the biological causes of mental illness (or any illness, really), labels for psychiatric diagnoses tend to describe a set of similar outward symptoms of mental illness (a syndrome), rather than their underlying causes. What that implies is that there may or may not be any single discrete entity called "schizophrenia"; ins5b4tead the term may cover a (potentially large) number of different underlying biological causes that all happen to produce similar symptoms.

So "schizophrenia" is a term that refers to a set of common symptoms shared between those who suffer from it, but they do not necessarily share a common cause. The same is true for, say, autism, or irritable bowel syndrome, or chronic fatigue syndrome. It is important to understand that when healthcare professionals question the validity of a diagnosis like that, this is not meant to imply that the patients are just making something up, or that there isn't something really wrong with them. People who have these syndromes are in real distress, but different people with the same syndrome may actually have different physical or psychological issues. The classification may therefore have to be revised as we find out more about the underlying causes, or as we learn to refine the diagnoses.

Re: What does she really have?

Sometimes the accuracy of the diagnosis can be at least partially confirmed or rejected by how the person responds to the drugs given.

Re: What does she really have?

I work as a 911 operator and I can tell if someone suffers from Schizophrenia. If they are off medication they go from one thought to the next never raising or lowering their voice while you speak to them. It's as if their hearing is turned off while their lips are moving. Schizophrenia isn't some made up mental illness as you can read about the disorder from people hundreds of years ago. Their thoughts are scrambled.

Did you also know psychologists cannot agree on what a psychopath/sociopath is? What one psychologist states can be different by another. Just because the field cannot agree on mental states doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

If Calimarina wanted to read a bunch of anti-science propaganda produced by non-scientists (such as attorney Wayne Ramsay), she could just head to the local Scientology center.

Wait, am I talking to Tom Cruise? Tom, is that you??

You're stupid.

Re: What does she really have?

Millions of dollars and relatives that want to claim it for themselves.

Re: What does she really have?

LOL, her net worth is roughly $4.000.000 and that's not a lot these days, and I hope she has a really good health care insurance, because it is not cheap to be treated at a mental care facility.

Her parents have been really good to her, and tried to take care of her, but as she is an adult, it is not easy to convince the authority's that she not capable of taking care of herself.

- I hope she's going to be well in the near future, and live a life as normal as it can be when you're diagnosed with a probably lifelong mental decease.

Re: What does she really have?

Millions of dollars that agents or managers want to claim control of. Tabloids that don't like her or her remarks that she refused to be a target for gossip. Secrets about Dan Schnieder that he needs to cover up. It's obvious from the continous DUI soap opera articles that the tabloids were setting her up for some type of scandal, if not Dan himself.

Re: What does she really have?

Oh my f'ing God, how the hell would her manager and her agent be able to "claim control" of her assets, and in which court would a judge give them that control and for what reason?!

- Her parents are awarded guardianship of her and given conservatorship of her assets by the court, and I don't see that decision being revoked anytime soon.

And the Dan Schneider rumors? Again Oh my f'ing God! You base your case solely on f'ing Internet rumors, rumors started by an anonymous writer on the f'ing "Blind Gossip" blog - you shouldn't believe everything you read on the Internet, you really shouldn't, because 95% are pure lies, 4% are "only" distorted stories, and maybe MAYBE 1% are genuine, and that's it!

Dude, turn off your computer, yank your head out of your a$$, and try to go out in the real world for a change - It's pretty nice out here, trust me. ;)

Re: What does she really have?

Her parents have guardianship of her finances. Isn't that what they wanted? Isn't that what I said? I turn my system off so I certainly wouldn't rave two paragraphs on the subject while I'm busy in the real world while you aren't.

Re: What does she really have?

No idiot, that's not what you said.

What you said was "Millions of dollars that agents or managers want to claim control of. "

You didn't say anything about her parents wanting it

And the person corrected you, rightfully so

Re: What does she really have?

Adderall-induced psychosis. Text book case.

I still very heavily admire her (currently use her pic, a favorite of mine, 16_bynes_lgl from a French-Canadian site, one of her wholesomely sexiest headshots, as my Facebook profile.)

It's MK Ultra.

Re: What does she really have?

. . . Who can say how a person will grow up who was a really brilliant commediane as a child and teen?

I think just about anyone desiring to be an actor or 'discovered' would succumb to the intial excitement of fame, then be overwhelmed by the realities of it.

We know 100% of all famous people will not survive fame, tho it seems 'fans' and viewers certainly expect it, and many are certainly ready to express disdain or incredulity when fame chokes the life out of a star.

A famous kid has all of the regular pressures of being a teen, and the identity crisis we all go thru, multiplied a thousand times by expectations from every single person in their life, plus millions of strangers!?

And the additional rather perverted, extreme emphasis placed on the importance of weight and
beauty is so over-the-top, PLUS a girl like Amanda was surely expected to be adorable funny at all times . . .

I'd crack too.
Pressure will burst a pipe.

Maybe some people were never really meant to be famous, and have to endure pressure and scrutiny about everything in their life from every person in their life plus millions of strangers making the most ridiculous, rude, and judgemental comments possible, who can have no clue what showbiz is about.

Maybe some famous people have to go thru fame to discover they were really just meant to have a close circle of friends who they enjoy joking & laughing with, like most infamous people have.

Re: What does she really have?

YAWN- if she doesn't like fame go get a real job see how DEPRESSING and how twisted she will be in a year.

Re: What does she really have?

Amen. I always love these "oh, poor thing" posts about how awful it is to have people worship you, cater to your every whim, and worst of all, what will you do with all those just awful millions of dollars?

Last I heard nobody has a gun to these people's heads. If you are so "unhappy" you can always leave.

Re: What does she really have?

Schizophrenia is a severe and chronic mental disorder that you have but you cannot get. Poor parenting, lack of willpower, and childhood experiences does not cause this disorder. It happens to all types of people. It doesnt matter if theyre poor, rich, famous, m pampered, had a hard life, etc. It just happens and can manifest at any point. They didnt ask for it so yeah i think Id feel some type of sympathy for something they didnt ask for. It can also be a pretty crummy disorder. I mean if were going blame someone for their mental disorder, should we blame michael j fox for his Parkinson disease or David Bowie dying from cancer.celebs are people too . Just because they have money doesnt mean it provides confort. They have to live with the effects of a dilitating and fatal disease or the effects of the medication to their body. I cant really blame someobe who by chance was given an opporunity to act in a movie kr do something they love which by chance made them famous. It really doesnt mean we should be anyless sympathetic to them. Still mental disorder do happen whether people have a cushiony life or not.
