Soundtracks and Scores : Randy Newman's The Natural

Randy Newman's The Natural

Before Toy Story and the Disney/Pixar animated classics, Newman made a name for himself in this classic American tale of Roy Hobbs, played by Robert Redford, middle-aged baseball rookie who had a natural talent for hitting the ball out of the park, who joined the Majors relatively late in life due to an unexpected twist of fate 16 years earlier when he allowed himself to be seduced by a young, beautiful but melancholy, psychotic woman who made it her mission in life to shoot him, to tear down the angel, the Mozart, before he could achieve his God-given greatness.

I think it's a powerhouse score that brings up powerful, primordial emotions for me! It's about a man realizing his true talent, his true potential, and unleashing it for all the world to see, before it's too late! And it's about love and family, inspiring the next generation of kids, as well as making a brief but indelible impression on the sport of baseball, being more important than having a long career and shattering all the records in the book.
