John Williams : Jurassic Park theme

Jurassic Park theme

Not sure if this is already on the boards so apologies if it is.

I'm sure I read somewhere that John Williams composed the main Jurassic Park theme to the words 'there's a dinosaur, there's a dinosaur'.

Pretty sure I read this but can't find any reference to it.

I guess composers get inspiration from all sorts of weird and seemingly daft places so it doesn't sound completely unbelievable to me.

I know I'm at risk of looking like an idiot but what the hell, it's Wednesday.

Re: Jurassic Park theme

No, you don't look like an idiot - you're right, composers in general and film score composers in particular "get a bright idea" from all kinds of sources, external (the film itself, the book it may be based on, the location shooting if the composer has been present in that locale) and internal (the composer's own reaction to the film, dreams/fantasies, "cues" from extant popular or classical music, memories of associations of times, places and feelings with particular musical modes).

Sorry, I don't know if Williams based the JP main theme to those particular words, but it seems very likely to me...

Lol it's possible you're just thinking of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMlJvq8oRVA

People have noticed that you can put the characters or movie titles in some of Williams' themes, though ("Staaaar Waaaars", "Su-perMAAAAN") but I don't know if that's something he would have consciously thought of. But I'm sure he has had a brilliant idea here or there while thinking of silly things or doing mundane tasks like driving or doing the dishes. Mostly I think he just sits at the piano, working hard and trying things.
