Jean Smart : Jean Smart is great in Designing Women
Re: Jean Smart is great in Designing Women
I do have a copy of the Best of Designing Women on DVD which I purchased thru Amazon. I just wish there will be a complete of all the season on dvd.of the 4 cast members Jean Smart is the stand out. No wonder she is still more active among the 3.After all JS is the tallest and the prettiest.I have nothing to say of the 3 others.
Re: Jean Smart is great in Designing Women
I'm a great Fan of Douglas Barr (who played Bill Stillfield) and I think hey were a nice couple in Designing Women. It's interessting, that her son's second name is Douglas. The boy was born after Des. Wom. Does anybody know waht Jean is thinking of Douglas Barr?
Re: Jean Smart is great in Designing Women
More likely a family name. IIRC, Jean is Scottish, and Douglas is a Scottish name -- actually, I think in an interview she said that was something to do with her father.
edit: here it is!

Douglas was her father's name.

Re: Jean Smart is great in Designing Women
I am watching an episode now, I loved this show. I have always been curious if Jean got along with the rest of the cast and does anyone know why she left the show early?
Re: Jean Smart is great in Designing Women
Jean left to spend more time with her family and to pursue other acting projects. From how everyone seems on the two reunion shows and comments in interviews over the years, the cast adored her too (as far as I know, the only falling out that happened cast wise was between Dixie and Delta and they made up a few years later).
Re: Jean Smart is great in Designing Women
Charlene is one of my favorite characters in "Designing Women", thanks to Jean Smart's brilliant acting. :)
Re: Jean Smart is great in Designing Women
Jean Smart is well loved by the 3 cast members and she is so GREAT and so BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE! :)
Re: Jean Smart is great in Designing Women
Jean was also concerned about being type cast....althought I can't see why Charlene was lovable, loyal, beautiful and sweet!

Me, too!
1st place - Bernice
2nd place - Suzanne
3rd place - Charlene
I might be tempted to put Suzanne as my favorite, but she didn't really have some funny moments until half way through the 2nd season. There were a few really funny SS moments during the 3rd season, with "Full Moon". But the hilarity of Suzanne Sugarbaker really kicked in during the show's 4th season. Gawd, she was funny in these later episodes.
Bernice was consistently funny.
Julia and especially Mary Jo rub me the wrong way. Anthony is the token male subordinate. He is mostly an extremely boring character. It seemed a fluke that when Anthony got paired up with Suzanne that he got to be funny and real. Suzanne and Anthony have a great rapport.
"My life is over. I might as well dance with Johnny Slash!"
