He's dead, Jim.

RIP

You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

That first pic is from "Lady in a Cage". A great, under-rated movie.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

I wasn't aware he had passed away. Must've been why I was thinking of him last week. I liked James Caan.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Look what they did to my boy

I have a friend (actually my Dyan Cannon friend) who must have a pipeline for recently deceased celebrities. He is always the first to know.

I liked him, too.

See, I just don't think that those things can (or should) be ignored. And you've got it.

Was it a random, passing thought?

Re: Look what they did to my boy

I may have seen his image on something and that may have triggered me to check out some of his films I was interested in seeing, but he hadn't died then and I had no inclination that he was about too.

This can happen quite often with me.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

I was surprised. He was 82 years old and that's a nice run, but he just seemed like he would be the kind of person to live to 90.

Have you seen "Lady in a Cage"? It packs a real punch. It was one of the first movies to use the word 'gay'.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

No, I haven't seen that. I was checking out a t.v film called Brian's Song that I might like to watch. It would be sad though.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

Oh, "Brian's Song" is a tearjerker. Very moving relationship between the two men. I'm a sucker for the movie.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

Yes, must watch. I also want to see a film called Bang The Drum Slowly, with De Niro and Moriarty.

Oh, I haven't thought of that movie for years. I saw it once. I remember being moved at the time. I can't remember much about it, except that DeNiro's character was mentally slow. His character was sweet.

Have you seen "Dominick and Eugene"? It was also a sweet movie.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

Yes, I like D&E. It doesn't have the Hollywood superficiality of Rain Man.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Look what they did to my boy

D&E is a good movie. I haven't seen it in a long time.

I didn't care for "Rain Man" much. Dustin Hoffman acts up a storm, but his character is a little bit on the annoying side. I actually found the Tom Cruise character to be more likable.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

Hoffman I find is skilled, but very much one-note. He was also support as far as I'm concerned. Cruise is much better and its his story more.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

Just been reading up on Lady In A Cage. I want to see it. It was banned in Oz and NZ upon initial release in 64. It is now only rated M in both countries, which means recommended for mature audiences over 15/16. No restriction. Interesting how things change.

I may be on a Caan binge over the next month I would say. A lot of the films he starred in flooded me prior, like The Rain People, Freebie and the Bean and I was watching Mel Brooks Silent Movie a couple of weeks ago and had stopped watching just after James Caan had appeared in a hilarious part playing himself, showing off his brawn.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

I know you have mentioned "The Rain People" a few times. Danny Peary gave Shirley Knight his Alternate Oscar for her role. I should watch it soon as a quiet acknowledgment of Caan's presence in the movies.

I'm pretty sure you would like "Lady in a Cage".

Re: Look what they did to my boy

Peary also included Caan as an Alternate Oscar runner up for The Rain People. He plays an intellectually slow ex-football player who teams up with Knight on her journey of liberation that goes all pear-shaped.

Nice. I wasn't aware of that.

Re: Look what they did to my boy

That book finally fell apart in my hands, I read it so much.
