To be fair, and without having actually read the article you posted, having sharks in our water is nothing new. It's not unusual to see the flags up warning of sharks in the water. The seal population along the coast draws them in seasonally.

As I see it, once we enter the water, we're now in their turf (so to speak).

So do I! I love them, and have spent most of my life swimming in the Atlantic ocean.

I remember hearing about a pro surfer who survived a shark attack, and he lost a limb. (It's not that woman that's become famous). He and his father did interviews where the father instilled in him that if he chose to surf, he's doing it in someone else's environment: the shark. He held no grudges at all and resumed surfing, defending sharks, even as the attack angered others against sharks.

I respect the power and history of sharks, and accept that responsibility if I enter their domain.

Honestly, anyone who goes into the ocean deserves to be eaten by sharks. You know they are there, why in the hell would you want to put yourself in that situation? I will go into the ocean, but I don't go out far, and I make sure there are plenty of people around to form a barrier which makes me feel a bit safer. They say anytime you are in the ocean, there's a shark within 50 feet of you… you may not know it, but those fuckers are there.

One time I thought I would go in the ocean at night, something they strongly advise against. That lasted about 3 seconds before I realized what a terrible idea it was. If I do get shark attacked one day while in the ocean, I will hold no grudge against the hungry shark. I shouldn't have been there.

I agree. It's their domain and it's not like we can try to talk them out of acting on instinct.

A shark in an "aquarium" is not a rescue.

Only when animals are facing extinction could I ever endorse "capturing" them, and even then, SOLELY for the purpose of repopulation and returning them to the wild.

There's never an excuse for things like zoos or anything else that keeps wild animals locked up. Never.

Yes there is. For us to look at them. We should see different animals that exist on the planet. Local wildlife is alright but there is more to the planet than local wildlife and domesticated animals like dogs and cats.
